Dolphins fire GM Ireland [Six years, NO IMPROVEMENT. Sound familiar?]

The Miami Dolphins have fired general manager Jeff Ireland...

Ireland was elevated to the GM position in January of 2008, given full power over football operations and personnel once Bill Parcells agreed to step aside in September of 2010, then was rewarded with a multi-year contract extension the following January.

Under Ireland, the Dolphins went a combined 46-50 with a wild card loss to the Baltimore Ravens following the 2008 season.

Tannehill will be a great QB, and is far better than the 40+ starters since Marino retired. Except for Chad Pennington, but he was made of egg shells.

Wow, about time.

I'm a lifelong Dolphin fan.

Our 2013 Draft was the final insult.

We traded up to pick #3 to get some DE from Oregon I'd never heard of, Dion Jordan.

The guy couldn't tackle, so he only played on passing downs, and he got like 2 sacks and 1 deflection the whole season.

One bright spot, he has incredibly long arms, so when they realized he couldn't pass rush, either, they dropped him into pass coverage on tight ends, where he has done a solid, but unspectacular job.

Our 2 Round pick, a CB who has been injured (groin, I think) for much of the year and played in about 3 games.

Our 3 Round pick, an OG who is so bad that even after we lost FIVE offensive line starters, they still wouldn't put the guy on the field.

Another 3 Round pick, another CB, the guy is so bad he didn't get on the field until the 15th game, after we had lost two starting corners and two starting safeties.

Round 4, a LB, not good enough to play defense, but has made Special Teams where he has had some good games.

Another Round 4, a TE, so bad he rarely plays.

Round 5, a RB, so bad he rarely plays.

Another Round 5, a kicker, terrific in his first 8 games, then, pretty much a total collapse in his last 8.

The jury is still out on our #8 Pick from last year, QB, Ryan Tannehill.

He showed improvement for most of his second year, then, he just completely fell apart in our last two must win games, although poor offensive line play and poor RB’s certainly hurt his performance.

I think you need a Top Ten QB to win consistently in the NFL.

After watching Tannehill for 16 games, I just don't think he can improve enough to get there.

I read the headline as “Dolphins fire on Ireland” and was curious as to why ocean life was making war on the Guinness-makers.

Maybe the Cowboys should read and heed the plight of GM Ireland. But wait, the employer (JJones) is the GM. Never mind!

Eleven years on and five straight post-season losses later Bengaldom is still stuck with Marvin Lewis.

As a life long Bengals fan, I am used to an annual rite of suckitude. The Bengals will NEVER hoist a Lombardi Trophy so long as the Brown family owns them.

Maybe the Cowboys

Consistency = 8 and 8 with no playoff wins. Can't fire Jerry.

Sorry, Buffalo Bills have you all beat. 6-10 4 of the last 5 years (4-12 the other) and have not MADE the playoffs in 14 straight years, most in the NFL. We change coaches, GMs, coordinators and it never, ever changes.
