Are they like a bizarre version of the Masons, with vows, rituals, secrets and never ending tests to prove their loyalty? That is the impression I get seeing those meticulously painted clown faces that were never meant to be funny. I get the feeling that most of these members never completely come out of their selected charactersm if they don’t absolutely have to. Well, different strokes, right? A camardarie is found in many settings. Some men belong to the Moose Lodge or the Elks.

We gotta play "caption this photo" on this one!

"Just because we look like a couple of extras from "The Warriors", does NOT mean we're a gang!"

Let me explain. Any large group of people can be dangerous, they stampede.

The Beatles were coming along in an era when traditional morals dominated (Elvis' gyrations were left out of the shot on Ed Sullivan) and were outrageous for the day. Almost a decade later, the hippie movement had made large inroads, and deadheads were prime candidates for getting their vehicle searched for pot, among other drugs (Johnny Carson, Laugh In were entertainment, replete with innuendo). Fast forward twenty years (plus) and society has changed, hardened (more), and become much more crudely sexual and abusive, despite claiming greater sensitivity (MTV and all the beeping in television shows--if they even bother).

What passes for music is a product of its time, a reflection of the edges and boundaries of its time and ICP is no exception, nor is their following so different. Youth like 'edgy', as a generalization, but the edge has moved.

It takes progressively more outrageous behaviour to be outrageous, and somehow that has become part of a youth culture meme, where everyone wants to be different (just like everyone else). Tattoos, piercings, and other manifestations abound, and behind all that, there are kids searching for a semblance of the family they didn't get at home, or a unique identity--their place in the world (just part of growing up). While the search for 'family' isn't a requirement in this neotribalism, it is a common theme.

I pray, personally, the pendulum of youthful rebellion has finally covered enough arc that there will be ensuing generations who rebel against the behaviour of their predecessors by being more conservative in their behaviour, but the war is a spiritual one.

All three groups had their commonalities, in distinctive slang, in acceptable behaviour, and even in dress, within each group. That didn't make any of them "gangs", but did make them cultural rallying points, and therein lies the similarity.

“Los Angeles (CNN) Insane Clown Posse and four fans are suing the FBI for designating the rap duo’s followers as gang members.”

How very 1950s-ish of the FBI. Are they also targeting Sinatra and Everly Brothers fans as well?

Passingly know of the ICP and they like their weed but I did not know that their following were criminal masterminds worthy of Federal persecution.

Too many gangs are composed of brown kids from the 'hood and I think the FBI wants there to be a gang composed largely of white kids from the 'burbs. You know, to even things out a bit.

Probably Holder's idea.

I did a search to see what the deal is, and the reason for the FBI harassment came right up. ICP is a white hip-hop group.
