Maybe you associate Macy's with NYC because of the Thanksgiving Day Parade. But it's a national chain.

Many of the people who lost their jobs today may very well have voted Republican. Personally, in this horrible economy, I don't want to see anyone - Dem or Repub - fired and forced onto the government rolls. They are victims - Obama is the perp.

Good luck to them! Most of them are hardworking young adults and some are elderly people forced back into the working world because of a disastrous economy.

What makes you think MS will remove Cochran; hasn’t he been there as long as Stennis was? Cochran was elected to the House in 1972 and the Senate in 1978.

Macy’s was called Bambergers when it was in the sticks. That’s where my mother shopped after we left NYC.

Haley Barbour is a big booster of open borders too, but people likely the way he handled Katrina.

Because I live here and I talk to hundreds of people per week and everyone is just fed up with cochran and wicker. Mississippi is in a “throw out all the bums” mode today.

Yes he did and then he shown himself to be a corrupt man. Between eminent domain thefts and letting hundreds of hard core criminals back out on the street... Mississippi no longer thinks much of this crony capitalist pig.

they had a decent men’s department and good markdowns

I hate Macy ads. They offer 20% off coupons, but there are so many printed exemptions you can't figure out what is for sale.

And it looks as good as the day you/I bought it!

Certainly does and they are coming back into fashion once again. /s

“A point to consider, also the people in the ‘south’ have less need for an extensive ‘winter’ ensemble of clothing. That makes a huge difference for these stores that are used to supplying clothing for both seasons as well as the ever-changing demands of ‘fashion’. Add in less disposable income and store like Macy’s that rely on clothing sales are in trouble.”

Good points; it is even worse than that for businesses in the northeast (and the very states themselves). Heating costs alone are sufficient reason to flee the northern sections of the country.

“The really scary thing is that small businesses are failing like popcorn pops.”

Absolutely; there is no shortage of retail space by me. New businesses tend to be catering to the illegals here (laundromats, check cashing places, ethnic restaurants - ones where only they would ever eat). Besides that we have tattoo parlors...

The Bronx store surprises me, though NYC has fended off population losses by throwing open its doors to illegals. NYC is filled with foreigners now.

Every time I went it was less than the price marked and so I was happy

Saw a list of states in an online British paper - none in the Southeast. From recollection, I think it is New York, Arizona, Utah, Kansas and Missouri (but no warranty).

While I have been in Macy’s NYC, but I am not familiar with their other stores and I did not know that they were connected to Jacques Peney (sic). I am not at all being critical of the store.
Miracle on 34th Street is one of my all time favorite movies :)

Yes, as I look down the once prosperous business strip of the Mississippi Coast... all that I see are dollar stores, laundry centers, fast food and thrift stores... and Casinos... and 70% unoccupied but once thriving spaces... buildings... empty and for sale or rent. I call it “obamaville”. They are everywhere that Americans do business... except in DC and the surrounding evildom.

Far from it but thank you. The only perfection that was man... was crucified on a cross for all of us. I am just a man... trying to do what I believe in and I try to live by the WORD. Man... the rats and dims make it hard!

At this point in NJ/NY it is no longer about saving businesses; it is about preventing population from fleeing. As town deteriorate, the public sector’s jobs are at risk - now it is all about saving them (even if it means importing a population from the Third World to do so). Our public sector employees are our upper middle class now.

I meant it sincerely. I have a hard time finding conservatives around here and I am in Kansas! Drive through Mississippi every year on my way to the beach with the girls. Love it in the South. Love the Gulf.
