I had a 65 Skylark, with a more “mild mannered “ 300 V-8, which ran pretty strong until the timing chain crapped out, those engines were known for this. Got so frustrated I practically gave it to my brother-in-law, told him to get it the bleep out of my sight, and I still kick myself when I see a nice one at a car show >:(
I was in China earlier this year. Buicks were quite common. I believe they have a factory in Shanghai. I was impressed with the quality of many of the cars there. Way different than what I expected.

Hindsight really has 20/20 vision, doesn’t it?.
.
That’s because it is a stylized Pontiac Aztec design
The ugliest vehicle made designed by a team of females
The only thing I could ever say about men driving them would get me banned
Something about an organ they have not had in their mouth. Yet (Think Metrosexual)
touché hahaha!
That’s a beautiful, very high quality image,considering
it was taken nearly sixty years ago. Thanks for posting.
I was 10 years old when my dad bought a 1965 Buick Wildcat.
Oh my. It also has the 401 motor.
By chinese standards the buick is built pretty well.
Well, they have 4 times the population of the United States -- 1.2 trillion people.
Why wouldn't they be expected to have more jobs and more money? Fact is they have 1/5 our GDP/capita. Analyze the data, FreedomGuru.
Buick is the standard for cars made in China...... it is chinese
I remember when people laughed at the Japanese cars in the 60s and Korean cars in the 80s.
Difference being quality is a way of life for Japanese and Koreans. Not so much with the Chinese.
We used to have that and still maintain it in some areas.
If population were the only factor the Chinese would have been rich a long time ago.
Its about more than population.
Wow, that photo was taken in the lobby of the General Motors Design Center outside of Detroit, designed by Eero Saarinen in 1949.
Those awesome suspended stairs over a reflecting pool are too cool.
I was just there working and they are more fanatical about absolutely No Cameras than a Court House is about guns.
Just try it find any choice interior photos of that place, and no architectural tours ever which sucks because it’s a Historical Building and it’s looks pretty close today as it does in the black and white photos that adorn the corridor walls.
GM has been wanting to build all of their vehicles in china since at least the late 90’s. The only thing stopping them was the tier suppliers who wouldn’t jump on board, and move to china. It took a bankruptcy, and a shakeout of the supplier chain to make the dream a reality, with the help of their US government cronies of course. Ford and Chrysler moved operations to mexico and canada a long time ago, so GM needed an edge in the market, and jumping on the china bandwagon was just the answer.
That’s because in China they don’t know “Buick” means to puke or vomit.
Yet.
We have a 2010 Buick Enclave and it’s a fantastic car. Never had one issue with it. They have redesigned everything over the last 3-5 years.
