Emanuel asks for time to write rules on gun sales in Chicago

Mayor Rahm Emanuel indicated today that he won't fight a federal court ruling that struck down Chicago's ban on gun stores and instead will ask for six months to come up with rules.

The mayor didn't offer specifics on how his administration will try to retool the city's gun ordinances to meet the court standard. But he said he isn't appealing the ruling because the city keeps losing the court cases and he doesn't like litigation for litigation's sake.

“Though I fully disagree, the city has little option but to follow the ruling of the court. I’ve instructed the Law Department to work with public safety experts and community leaders to create a comprehensive set of restrictions on the sale of firearms to ensure that illegal guns don’t find their way into the hands of criminals or straw purchasers,” Emanuel said.

He's just delaying implementation for another 6 months. But he isn't fighting it or anything.

Dear Mayor Dumbass: criminals won’t even deem your regulations worth wiping their butts with. Get on with it. It doesn’t take any new laws, just repeal the ones you have.

Six months to write regulations so onerous that there will be no place in Chicago that qualifies for opening a gun shop.

Isn’t it already illegal for gun stores to sell guns illegally. Or, what are we missing?

Six months to write regulations so onerous that there will be no place in Chicago that qualifies for opening a gun shop. And if you can, it will cost a million dollars to comply.

In states and counties with pro-gun Sheriffs, they should seriously consider forming a “posse comitatus”, not to be confused with the Posse Comitatus Act. In common law, the county Sheriff is the de facto leader of the posse comitatus.

As such, a Sheriff could declare that all adult citizens of good character are automatically enlisted in the posse, and are *required* to be armed and have ammunition, with no penalty for non-compliance.

But this means that any federal anti-gun effort could only seize the guns from the citizens of that county if they seized the guns from all LEOs in the state.

How many Chicagoans will die because they cannot protect themselves for another six months?

Hey, how about doing the same thing El-Presidente did with oil rigs in the Gulf of Mex? The court says you can’t do that, so you just do it again to prove them wrong.

How many Chicagoans will die because they cannot protect themselves for another six months?

You are dreaming if you think anyone will be able to buy a gun in Chicago in six months.

Six months is just the amount of time it will take to develop rules, then they have to be reviewed, etc. After that someone foolish enough to want to deal with all the Chicago red tape will have to apply to have a gun store. Then there will be a lengthy approval process. But, he will have to have an address for the store before the application can even be considered,so he will have to find a potential site and pay rent on it from before the application is filed until the store can open, which will mean at least several years. And if the application is denied for any reason, the rent is all down the drain...

I am going to bet it will be 5 years before a store opens in Chicago.

I know it is a fantasy, but I would love to see an order front the court giving then 10 days to develop rules, and no more than 30 days to approve or deny applications.

Try this one: The right to keep and bear arms will not be infringed.

Seems I read that some where.

There is nothing the pr!ck needs to do. It is already covered by federal rules. Fill out the paperwork and take the iron home.
