During 2012, $25,000 of federal money was spent on a promotional tour for the Alabama Watermelon Queen.

One of my favorites among many. Imagine private industry doing a promotional tour for any state "Watermelon Queen". The shouts of racism, the editorials, the demonstrations, etc. would be infinite.

The federal government stupidly spends money on everything it does, except for the clear exceptions put forth in Article 1 Section 8.

If anything, I’d give them one exception to non-adherence to A.1.S.8 - they could elect to NOT spend money on a postal service.

The government spent $2.6 million to encourage Chinese prostitutes to drink more responsibly

I don't always want my Chinese prostitutes to drink, but when they do, I want them to drink Dos Equis.

The National Institutes of Health has given $1.5 million to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston to study why “three-quarters” of lesbians in the United States are overweight and why most gay males are not.

The $1.5 million question answered on FR for FRee: lesbians sit at home together watching Lifetime man-hater television and fill the holes in their soul with Hagen Daz. Queer men troll truck stop restrooms and fill the holes in their soul with crystal meth, and are 54 times more likely to contract AIDS than anyone else. Neither crystal meth or AIDS is likely to cause weight gain.

The list of wasteful spending would fill hundreds of pages, single spaced.

The National Institute of Health recently gave $666,905 to a group of researchers that is conducting a study on the benefits of watching reruns on television.

We need to re-fund this at a higher level so they can run it as a comparative study of the benefits of watching reruns with vs without commercials; otherwise the study is worthless.

*Sigh*

Here we go again with a list of little piddly stuff the government spends money on that’s supposed to fill us with outrage.

The total of all the stuff listed here is less than $.5 Billion. THIS IS A ROUNDING ERROR. This is couch-cushion change.

You wanna talk saving money? How about eliminating the departments of Education, Commerce, Energy, HHS, and the EPA?
