Maddow Suggests Plausible Alternate Theory to Christie NJ Bridge Scandal

...

The e-mail sent by Christie aide Bridget Kelly to the Port Authority executive behind the lane closures was dated August 13th, 2013, “the order to unleash hell on Fort Lee.” And Maddow believed Christie “very convincingly quashed” the idea that this was because of a refusal to endorse, but connected the dots to suggest another motivation.

In 2010, Christie took the unprecedented step of refusing to reappoint a New Jersey Supreme Court justice for another term, which set off the New Jersey Democrats, who got back at Christie by shooting down all the other Supreme Court justice nominees he put forward.

So when a Republican member of the New Jersey Supreme Court came up for reappointment last year, NJ Senate Democrats promised to make it a brutal fight, so Christie decided to stop the reappointment. He was furious at Senate Democrats, and held a press conference getting really angry with them.

That press conference, expressing much anger with Senate Democrats, was held on August 12, 2013, a day before the Bridgegate e-mail was sent. And Fort Lee, the town that got backed up, is part of the legislative district represented by Loretta Weinberg. The leader of the Senate Democrats.

Just how do local pols get punished by inconveniencing their peeps?

It's because us little folk don't matter. The pols are playing this high stakes game without any regard to real world consequences. That's the real outrage.

“What should bug people about this, is revenge was taken on the voters for actions done by their elected officials, and that’s not right.”

Yep. Rush made this point yesterday too.

I'm hoping that by pointing out the difference in the pursuit of this story and the pursuit of all of Obama’s scandals some reporters that were holding back on the Obama scandals realize that maybe they could still have a career if they actually report.

I don't feel sorry for Christie. He seemed to be trying to make sure Romney didn't win after he wasn't picked for VP.
All that cozying up to Obama was for naught. I don't think he has Teflon coating like Obama does. This scandal such as it is, isn't going away. He should have gone ahead and announced he was going to become a Democrat. Then he would be protected.

Thank you for your post!

Excellent points on how Obama has caused and continues to cause massive tie-ups not only to traffic, but to government as well.. All for his own personal gain and pleasure.

The Despicable Leftist Media tried to tie the death of an elderly woman to the traffic jams. When asked, the daughter of the woman said it absolutely had nothing to do with her mothers death. Will the MSM report that? I seriously doubt it.

If someone commits robbery, the police don't say we can't investigate the crime because someone committed murder and that's far more important.

Are you really worried that this incident will not be thoroughly investigated?

This will be the most investigated event since the Kennedy murder (one of the ones where a Kennedy died, not one of the ones where a Kennedy killed).

The state police, the FBI are already on the case. Plus every single journalistic manhour possible will turn over every rock, scan every computer, sniff every crotch they have to uncover every last shred of evidence they can. And, even then, if they find nothing implicating Christie in the event, they'll declare him guilty simply because the preponderance of investigative effort proves he was involved.

Someone doesn't take the 5th because there isn't anything to investigate.

Christie didn't take the fifth. He answered questions from the hostile press for over an hour. One of the guilty parties pleaded the fifth, no doubt under orders from his lawyer.

No, I'm saying it should be investigated, not swept under a rug because it doesn't rise to the level of Obama’s scandals. Christie did it to himself.

Christie didn't take the fifth. He answered questions from
the hostile press for over an hour. One of the guilty parties pleaded the fifth, no doubt under orders from his lawyer.”

No one said Christie took the 5th. I actually started out believing Christie, but I didn't know that much about this incident. But the longer he talked, I got the impression he was covering up. He didn't know a traffic study if it bit him. Give me a break. His job is to figure out what is going on. He had months to do it. He didn't ask Bridget why she lied. He said he wasn't interested at this point. I don't believe this either.

I guess he didn't talk to his employees that ordered this study. It just didn't ring true the longer he talked.

This theory sounds plausible to me.

To me it sounds more like they've already decided something wrong was done and who did it and they're trying out possible explanations for why it was done -- sort of the opposite of how unbiased observers would proceed.

If they repeat often enough that Christie is the kind of guy who is so petty and vindictive as to get back at his opponents in ways like this, his pettiness becomes a given that will explain why he behaves in a petty and vindictive fashion in a particular case -- that's also not how an open-minded investigator would pursue the case.

If you make charges against somebody often enough the charges become the lens though which people view him. Things that aren't necessarily true become what everybody takes for granted about him. And you keep Gates's book and whatever else is going on in the real world on the back pages for another day.
