How 'low information' are low information Americans about Obamacare?
American Thinker ^ | 01/10/2014 | Rick Moran

Surprisingly - even shockingly - ignorant.

Reuters:

Most uninsured adult Americans lack basic knowledge about President Barack Obama's signature healthcare law and haven't visited their online insurance marketplace because they think health insurance is unaffordable, according to a survey released on Thursday.

The survey from Enroll America, a non-profit healthcare enrollment coalition, found that 68 percent of uninsured adults had not yet logged onto their online exchanges.

A similar number, 69 percent of the uninsured, still lacked knowledge about tax subsidies and other financial help designed to make the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, affordable for many, the survey said.

"Large proportions of the uninsured are also still in the dark about deadlines and that brand new plans are available," Enroll America said in a report about the survey.

"A lack of facts about costs and coverage may be the greatest barriers to enrollment," it added.

The law is expected to reduce the number of uninsured in the United States by almost half, or about 25 million people, in the next 10 years.

Oh, I think people understand quite well that signing up for Obamacare makes them perpetual slaves of the state.

If Phil Robertson tells her to vote for someone, she votes for them. Her TV tells her what to do.

I get what you say about the TV telling low-info voters of what to believe, but Phil Robertson has never engaged in giving any sort of political advice on the show. Furthermore, you insult many "Duck Dynasty" fans on this board, by linking their enjoyment of the show with those of a low-information voter. DD fans are generally conservative, and numerous studies have shown that conservatives are more politically aware of the issues, and are likely to obtain their information from a wider variety of sources (sans the MSM).

Maybe the have been informed, and know how bad it will be. The opposite of this liberal article could be the real reason.

I’m just waiting on them to tell us that Medicare and Tricare Life (secondary to Medicare Retired Military over 65) are going to be forced under the 0’care umbrella and Express Scripts for your meds.

I have big issues with this 3 month buy, because our Meds bill would be about $500 for 3 months worth of drugs, and at our age it is better to do monthly, especially for me as I have a ton of drug reactons. Another issue with ES is they buy the cheapest generics from any manufacture, you won’t know from order to order which one you will get, or what country. It is then tossed up on your porch for some one to steal. And what about that emergency 1 time antibiotic you might need middle of a Fri night ER run? ES is not a 24/7 day operation. M-F standard business hrs.

So is this going to be the new spin? ObamaCare is a disaster only because the public was/is too dumb to make it work?

Well, the liberals have dumbed people down so this their consequence.

Ironic that they can't even give away health care sine their voter base is so ignorant. (I'm assuming those that have no clue are in the income bracket to get a total subsidy).

It’s a fictional show. You may as well be defending professional wrestling. I’m sure pro rassling fans are just as conservative.

Nonetheless, you still need health insurance. You are one drunk illegal in a hooptie from being bankrupt.

You're acting like a simpleton. My original point was not to defend the show, it was to point out that association with "Duck Dynasty" viewers and "low information voters" have nothing to do with each other. You used the term in a drive-by comment, and provided no proof. I gave you a chance to explain yourself, and you choose to insult me.

I might get killed in a car wreck too. Odds are in my favor. Bankruptcy is not life’s end, if it should come to that.

Life is risk.

True but it is like saying “I don’t need life insurance because I’ll be dead and I won’t care what happens to my family”.
Garnishing wages is the new debtors prison.

We’re 60 and I don’t do health insurance any more. I consider it in the vein of John Adams’ comments on giving up our “comfort”.

Frankly, I’m fine with paying health care out of pocket like I do everything else. And I would not opt for expensive (over $100k) treatments anyway. An acquaintance was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. She is now cancer free. She got no expensive medical treatment.

Search “gerson” and “cancer” to find out how she did it.

We’re taking responsibility for our health - and most other problems, e.g. broken bones, don’t cost that much to fix. I’ve lived it.

The idea that one is not responsible or living dangerously if they don’t have health insurance is a defective paradigm.

God did a better job designing our bodies than many would have you believe.

What if you don’t have “wages”? How do they garnish income from your own business or stuff you sell on eBay, etc.?

Yeah but you may not have a choice. If a drunk illegal with no insurance hits you, you are going to have a hospital bill.

Yes. And if I get struck by lightning there will be hell to pay, too.

Life is risk. When it comes to driving, I’m a HUGE defensive driver. I’m expecting this sort of thing all the time, and I commute 122 miles a day and have driven most states in this country. Multiple times.

Funny you bring up the illegal. I hit one trying to run across the street once. Tried to sue me twice but never got past the first threatening letter, as my insurance company in so many words replied back with, “bring it on”.

I don’t fear what MIGHT happen.

An aquaintence n Seattle has not made a house payment in over five years now. She’s still stringing the bank along as they try to negotiate a new payment agreement on her mortgage. Eventually she’ll just move out. But in that time she has become completely debt free (except for the mortgage she’s basically written off in her own mind).

i.e. they are not that good at it, yet.

Also, my auto insurance does cover a fair amount of damage done by any uninsured driver. No health insurance necessary.

You can be very careful and still end up in the hospital.
Since you don’t have income, you qualify for Medicaid.

The bank will get their money eventually. Not paying is not the same as “off the hook”. She still owes the money. Even worse, she’ll owe the IRS. Any debt that is forgiven is considered “income”.

Your car insurance will not pay if you get mugged or fall or have a heart attack or fall off a ladder or get hit crossing the street or cut yourself with a kitchen knife or get the flu or break a bone or...well, you get it.

Yeah I know. It will never happen to you. It only happens to other people. Must be nice.

You are right. My daughter broke her arm while I had $5,000 deductible insurance. It was $200 a month cheaper insurance than the Group Health full coverage, but the bad news was I had to pay for EVERYTHING involving the broken arm. Total out of pocket expense? ~$275.

Health care is not that expensive. It just isn’t. Especially when the health care provider knows you don’t have insurance. I’ve experienced it many a time.

I can afford to pay for my own broken pipes, electrical problems and mechanical failures of my cars and tractor. I can afford to pay for the same regarding my wifes and my bodies.

And you said: “Yeah I know. It will never happen to you. It only happens to other people. Must be nice.”

Statistically speaking, you are absolutely correct.
