“UK Mirror” making the case for just how great it is not to have this sort of problem under Britain’s governmental care.

Our system if totally ——— up right now. Comparing anything is problematic. I’ll bet we could find some real horror stories from Great Britain’s system too, and it’s been up and running for quite some time.

As someone else mentioned, Obamacare was sold on the idea there would be no medical qualifications. Register the girl and let her get care.

De Beyer admits that he has tried selling his restaurant over the years.

Most recently, it’s been on the market since last summer but brittany’s
new medical emergency means he’ll slash the price and try to sell it faster.

“The new thing about it, I would receive a lot less money,” said De Beyer.
“So she gets medical, gets taken care of.”

Barbara said both she and her daughter are signing up for Affordable Care.

Brittany doesn’t know if her tumor is cancerous yet.

“Shriners Hospital for Children® — Houston delivers the highest quality of care to children with a host of orthopaedic and neuromusculoskeletal disorders and diseases, as well as cleft lip and palate.”

Look at their web page, no brain surgeons there.

You are living in dream land. No hospital is going to do that without money.

Look up the charity policy for almost any hospital and you'll find that's not the case.

This is why studies show that people already get better medical care than they would under Obamacare's Medicaid expansion. Most states and local governments already have programs that get care for the uninsured, underinsured and poor.

What a great guy! I suggest he try hosting a fund raiser party at his restaurant before selling it though. That happens in my town all the time. Turnout is always good.

Once again, someone has to go out of his way to prove this world contains better men than me.

muir_redwoods (When I first read it, " Atlas Shrugged" was fiction)

Is this what you took away from Rand's book. You confess to being a failed altruist?

Doesn’t mean that a neurosurgeon wouldn’t be given admitting privileges for a special case.

If he has less than 40 or 50 emoloyees(whatever that number is), which is likely, Obamacare won’t impact his business...

Yes it will. His employees are all mandated to buy health insurance on low wages. And what fool doesn't think that Obama and his HHS Secretary won't change the rules on a whim, again and again and again?

Plenty of businesses see the “writing on the wall” due to any number of destructive government edicts. This could simply be a case of what government plots for evil, a righteous man turns it for good.

I don’t have an opinion either way of the motive; I’m just not going to assume the worst when there are other more positive scenarios. And I am usually not a glass-half-empty type - more of a glass-drained-dry-no-hope-of-a-refill-because-it’s-got-holes-in-the-bottom type. :)

And there ARE brain surgeons at St Judes. A friend’s daughter was treated for a brain tumor there.

And more to the story from 5 days ago:

http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/courier/news/owner-of-german-restaurant-to-sell-business-to-help-teen/article_88bb0f39-a080-5055-afb5-0df8493a245e.html

Snip
Kaiserhaus Restaurant and Wunderbar are located off Texas 105 on Commerce-Row Drive
on a 1.5-acre corner lot in a 6,000-square-foot building, De Beyer said.

“I have listed my restaurant for several years and recently turned down an (owner-financed)
offer for $1.3 million,” he said. “But now I want to auction it off at a reserve
price (or minimum bid — 50 percent of the actual value) and anything above that will go
to help Brittany.”

Brittany’s father John had a tumor in the back of his skull, she said, which
caused him to have a brain aneurysm.

“Michael (De Beyer) has been a real blessing to our family,” Brittany said.
“And he’s just always been there whenever we’ve needed anything.”

Of course. In the UK she would probably wait a year or so for a test, then another 6 months for an MRI and then a year for the surgery and by then, sadly, it would have spread and she'd be sent to hospice or offered euthanasia.
