That seems a very nice thing to do, but the girl may privately wonder, does he expect anything else from me for accepting this ‘free’ gift? The Restaurant owner may not have fully thought about it himself, but wants to rescue a young damsel in distress.

Sometimes you have to act without considering the consequences.

I have discovered (late in life) that nothing, nothing is really free. Every bestowment comes with some kind of strings attatched or some expected action of the taker, in time, in attentiveness, in obedience, in unquestioned loyalty, something. Maybe even something benign, like a big, unmistakable show of gratitude from the receiver. Nothing wicked about it at all, but some people need a big dose of praise once in a while, and jump onto an opportunity to earn it.

My reasoning is that he didn't have to wait to
rescue a young damsel in distress to get what you imply he wants out of his employee only until after she got diagnosed with a tumor. If there was something he wanted, okay, if he wanted s-e-x, there, I've gone right out and spelled it, he could have gotten it simply by merely hinting what a nice, secure job she had and it would be a pity to have her looking for another one seeing how the economy is so very bad.
That's what employers do, that's how he would have approached it if s-e-x was so prevalent an urge for him....IF...he wanted to ahem, rescue a damsel in distress as you euphemistically are trying to convey.
So, now he's so desperate to rescue a damsel in distress he's going to sell his only source of income for some knight in shining armor/superhero mind game?
I think not.
