Donald Trump is ready to run for governor of New York if the state's Republicans will unify behind him, but state GOP Chairman Ed Cox says Trump should officially declare his candidacy if he's serious about seeking the state's top spot.
Trump told the New York Daily News, after a two-hour meeting with 50 Republicans in his office on Friday, that he is seeking full support of the party and wants no primary elections.
"You can’t have primaries," said Trump. "You can’t have all the wasted time and effort in doing that. You have to pick somebody and go to win. If that couldn’t happen, I wouldn’t do it."
Cox, though, said Trump should go through the process of running, like any other candidate.
"If Donald Trump is serious about running for governor, he should declare his candidacy, run and go through the process," Cox is already supporting Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino's potential campaign, the Daily News reports.
Astorino has not yet officially decided to run, but his spokeswoman, Jessica Proud, said he would not step aside and allow Trump to run unopposed.
"We think it's great he's thinking of running," Proud said. "They both care deeply about the state and are both very concerned watching Gov. [Andrew] Cuomo manage its decline."

Why didn’t Trump just run for NYC Mayor? Nobody’s going to vote for him outside NYC if he runs for Governor, especially up-staters who hate the city.
Mr. Trump again shows his incredible chutzpah and air of self importance that elevated him to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame last year.

Donald is 400% better than that Nazi prick Cuomo. That SOB Cuomo is sending out goons to confiscate weapons.
It's not uncommon...We're talking a party running a candidate. Happens all the time for various offices.

Politicians need the pomp to deceive voters plus they have the time for it. Business men don’t have that time.
Go Trump - knock Cuomo off his game of using NY as his ladder to the WH. He’s so smug, he’s repulsive.
Crapola- I can’t imagine what he would do but it would be fun and interesting to watch and see what he would do and SHOW what CAN be done while putting those liberals to shame.
I think he’d make NY a company/business paradise and that brings workers and boosts the economy for NY.
That should be said of obama ALONE. Not a hard working proven successful NY'er who is a legal citizen who has afforded jobs to many.
Notice the ‘know nothings’ are trashing a hard working successful NY’er and get blind when it comes to the freedom sucking ways of a liberal; namely Cuomo.
Donald Trump is no George Washington.
