Five myths about Michelle Obama (Challenging everything you think you know)
Washington Post ^ | January 12, 2014 | Robin Givhan

Posted on 01/12/2014 4:53:30 AM PST by Zakeet

Michelle Obama entered the White House as a chimera. To some, she was emblematic of fully realized African American womanhood and an incomparable fashion icon. To others, she was the voice of racial grievance, the nanny state and Seventh Avenue vanity. She has proved herself to be neither vengeful nor the patron saint of activist feminism. Yet misperceptions linger. So as she celebrates her 50th birthday, here are a few facts in the face of persistent fictions.

1. Michelle Obama is the most fashion-friendly first lady.

[Snip]

2. She is a food tyrant of Bloombergian intolerance.

[Snip]

3. Her legacy will be Let’s Move or Joining Forces.

[Snip]

4. She hates Princeton.

[Snip]

5. She represents an unusual success story.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Obama’s senior thesis, “Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community,” was exhumed from the archives of the university and fueled the perception that she detested it. “My experiences at Princeton have made me far more aware of my ‘Blackness’ than ever before,” she wrote. “I have found that at Princeton no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my White professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don’t belong. Regardless of the circumstances under which I interact with Whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be Black first and a student second.”

Flame away but I feel she's been a great First Lady...

I can't believe they left out the fact that she is very much overweight. Are they just plain damn stupid? It's obvious . . . we all see it . . . but they can't refer to her being overweight? I don't get it.

Mrs. Obama’s “fashion sense” expresses exactly who she is (and especially who she is NOT) and what she thinks.

Many (most?) first ladies likely do not enjoy playing the role of loyal, decorous wife and unelected, superfluous hostess. But they have self-discipline and respect for the office their spouse holds, so they celebrate the nation at ceremonies, and sponsor good works. Some parlay their husband’s office into their own power and aggrandizement.

Moochelle grabs the brass ring as the first to so gracelessly and publicly resent being First Lady. It is obvious that she detests every moment, and hates Barry for making her play along. I think she hates America, except for blacks and black children, for putting her in this position, and because her worldview is limited by racial grievance. Spending huge sums on cheap-looking clothes, and multimillion dollar vacations, etc., are passive-aggressive payback. Similarly, wearing red and turquoise to memorial services is no accident (African-Americans fully understand traditional funeral/memorial etiquette). Passive-aggression is the resort of the powerless.

hhmmmmmm...... fashion friendly! Does that mean she will wear anything no matter how hideous?

I think it does so I must agree with #1.

That dress sure looks like my grandmother’s kitchen tablecloth. I thought we gave that to Goodwill.

She is fond of wearing bedspreads, shower curtains, and tablecloths. That is what certain prints always remind me of and I immediately turn away from them.

“Even Nancy Pelosi had the decency to to wear black.”

Italians are very strict about wearing black to funerals.

I thought we gave that to Goodwill.

You did but Goodwill rejected it because it scared the people who worked there. They sent it to a Savador Dali wanna-be who thought it was too weird, so he sent it to a recycling plant, where it was picked up by an "artist," who gave it to his clothing designer "partner," who made it into a Halloween costume that he sent to the White House as a joke. She didn't realize it was a joke. And that's the history of it.

Beats having to write articles about Fast and Furious, the Benghazi scandal(s), the Obamacare disaster, the Iranian nuclear weapons program, or even the inception of the de Blasio disaster in NYC. Partisan Media Shills ping, thanks Zakeet.

I was shocked to read that she has made several Best Dressed lists.

Those awards started at the very beginning, when everything she wore was grotesque and embarrassing.

Mooochelle on the other hand looks like she BELONGS in Africa.

Actually, many of the office secretaries in Kampala are dressed far more elegantly than Mrs. Obama is on her best day.
