CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Frustration is mounting for many of the 300,000 West Virginia residents who've gone three days without clean tap water.

It's only been three days and they're already complaining. What would they do in a real emergency when nobody is available to come and bail them out right away?

300,000 people without water.

I pay $6G per year in property tax.

Water is about the only thing I demand for that. After 3 days at $6G per year, I’m complaining - at least.

I am more intrested that if a berm was created to prevent this from happening. How was it breached. And if it was a deliberate act of domestic terrorism to muck up our water supply would we ever know?

Seems like a good target for someone who hates coal.

From the information available, the spill is not a spill from Freedom Industries. It is a “leak” from an ancient storage facility that apparently should have been replaced, but does not belong to FI. It belongs to the storage company (I don’t know the name). Anyway the contamination has been reduced from 3 parts per (Whatever) down to 1 part per (whatever). It should be safe enough for use in another day. Folks probably will want to drink bottled water for a few more days after that.

I have offered a whole house for use for any family who has no water. We are not living in it but most of the appliances and furniture are still in it. Still has electric and water on. No takers. Mostly I think it’s just people grumbling but not in a desperate situation. Tons of water if available to them from many sources.

“It’s only been three days and they’re already complaining.”

You would think that something really bad happened to these people and their water supply had been contaminated.

bottled water, bird baths, drinking other beverages, cooking foods that don’t need a lot of water, all sorts of options. and it’s only 3 days. i would miss my hot tea but that would be an annoyance.

On Monday, when we had a high of -18, and windchills in the -50’s, I was driving home from work at night and saw that work crews had dug holes in the roads big enough to lose a car in, and they were out there with spotlights freezing their tails off trying to repair something. When I got home I asked dad, who works in the same building as the department that coordinates those crews, and as I suspected they were fixing a broken water main. In fact, he said that water mains were breaking all over town. I asked him if there was water set aside in case our water main broke.

His answer: “No, why would we do that?”

I would have facepalmed if not for the fact that I had both hands under the cat trying to thaw them out. After much convincing, we finally got about 5 gallons of drinking water set aside. It turned out we didn’t need it, but I certainly felt better having it.

This is the same guy who thinks canned food spoils after a month, and that there is never any reason to have more than 2 boxed of dried pasta in the house. God help us if anything serious happens before my house is built!

(Sorry for the rant, I just needed to vent a bit.)

I agree. Why is this not a big, BIG, BIG story? The water is contaminated and people, pets, wild life do not have access to clean water. I don’t understand when/why people have became so hard hearted that they belittle 300,000 people are w/o cleaning, running water in their homes and businesses?

Seriously...there are countless businesses, hospitals, nursing homes, non-mobile citizens who do not have access to fresh, clean water.

Sorry...but this isn’t about going w/o your hot tea, cocoa or coffee for a few days.

And does no one think that this is a primer for terrorists - foreign or domestic - on how to cripple our society?

Though the toxicity of the contaminant, 4-methylcyclohexane methanol, appears relatively low in limited lab tests, and there don’t appear to be any medical issues related to the spill thus far.

Oh you’ll never miss the water till the well runs dry
You’ll regret each and every time you’ve made me cry
You’ll never miss me darling till I say goodbye
Oh you’ll never miss the water till the well runs dry

You could make a fortune if you went there with a semi full of Big Berkey water filters.

Hopefully this will be a wake up call for some folks. It’s not difficult to store water and a very good filter can be made for about $50.

"300,000 people without water. I pay $6G per year in property tax.

In the Kanawha Valley, public water service is privatized. WV-American Water Corporation provides bare minimum safeguards required by law. Nothing more, nothing less. Local government gets a franchise fee.

Part of my disaster plan is storing 200-300 gallons of water in the garage. I have a spigot set up in there for easily filling up a plastic barrel that I fill before weather events.

Luckily where I’m at water inavailability is a really low likelihood. Power is the major issue. But I do keep 2-3 gallons of drinking water in the pantry.
