WASHINGTON (CBS DC/AP) — Calling for “all hands on deck” to assist the economy, President Barack Obama is urging his Cabinet to identify ways to keep his administration relevant to people struggling in the up-and-down recovery.
With two weeks left before delivering an economy-focused State of the Union address to Congress, Obama is picking up the pace of his jobs message and demonstrating how he can advance his economic agenda administratively and through his ability to coax action from important interest groups.
“We’re not just going to be waiting for legislation in order to make sure that we’re providing Americans the kind of help they need. I’ve got a pen and I’ve got a phone,” Obama said Tuesday as he convened his first Cabinet meeting of the year.

You are wrongly assuming there is ever going to be another Republican/Conservative POTUS - that somehow this is just politics as usual and next election cycle will return us from a MarxoFascist oligarchy back to a Republic.
You might want to read what Adams had to say about what happens when a people lose their share in the legislature and refuse to stop every encroachment on their liberty .

Therein lies the problem, government meddling everywhere.
Want to "help" the economy? Start closing down federal agencies and getting rid of hundreds of thousands of regulations (not to mention federal employee's). The economy will come raging back and with it business' that will accept risk and start manufacturing here in America again.
Problem in obama paradise however (and I might add politicians in general), that means less control from the cesspool that is DC.
