A Terrible “Deal” In Which Only Career Military Are Called Upon To Sacrifice
HughHewitt.com ^ | January 14, 2014 | Hugh Hewitt

Posted on 01/14/2014 5:26:49 PM PST by Jeff Chandler

Incredibly, the House GOP has just agreed that the only group deserving budget punishment in the new spending deal is the career military. It is an obscene deal, one made worse by a patently cynical attempt to hide the blow to the military by “restoring” cuts to the pensions of wounded veterans. A vote for this betrayal of the military will haunt every Republican who supports it.

When the first outlines of the budget “deal” emerged late last tear, I counseled caution as the final details could change.

Who besides the military had to take a cut? Anyone?

Anyone who voted for this deserves to be voted out of office. I don’t care who they are.

We must NEVER, EVER forget this despicable act of betrayal by Paul Ryan. The GOPe will do their best to “rehabilitate” Ryan, but just as Rubio revealed his true colors with Amnesty betrayal, so Ryan has revealed his true colors with this stab in the backs of our veterans.

Let’s make sure we NEVER forget the Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio traitorous acts.

I think that in this day and age we all need to make sacrifices. That’s why I support building altars on Capitol Hill and near the state capitols and sacrificing politicians until the situation improves.

Its more than just cuts in benefits and pay. We were better off when all of America had to sacrifice along with our troops. Plus Americans might be less eager to go to war and more demanding of decisive wins.

It is even worse than what Hugh said (that GOP House appropriators would sign onto a $1.1 Trillion dollar budget for FY14 by selling out the military and veterans for only $6 Billion in “savings”). Ryan, Boehner, and the rest sold out the military for much less.....$0.6 Billion for this year. The $6 Billion figure is for 10 years! So our military men and women were betrayed for much, much less. The appropriators could have fixed this betrayal in their sleep. But that would further embarrass and expose Paul Ryan, and that just won't do.

He’s pushing people out of the military and by messing with benefits, he’s telling people thinking of joining to forget it because you’ll get screwed.

His hates the military and wants it gone. He promised the most transparent administration, and this goal of his is very obvious.

They are very good at indirectly making things happen by screwing people.

I think the GOP has yet to realize the error they committed by allowing this travesty. If they fully realized what they had done, they would have scrambled to remove the pension cuts from the omnibus appropriations bill. They haven't.

There is a certain amount of worship of Paul Ryan by feckless House GOP members, and they will do almost anything he says.

If the GOP loses a large number of House seats, or fails to re-take the Senate, the political chattering classes will discuss the betrayal of our military men and women, and suddenly the high paid geniuses will announce the to the political world that this was the greatest blunder in 50 years.

My DoD contract ended last May. The customer left my whole project team without income through Oct 1st. 5 1/2 months. Many simply left the company. I burned through 500 hours of vacation accrued over the last 20 years. Even after some funds were restored in October, it’s a shoe string operation. I’m buying disk drives out of my own pocket as the approval times are now weeks for minor items. Still not sure we’re going to remain in business. The two managers above me decided to leave. A bit like have the XO and CO depart the vessel in the middle of the ocean with a few JOs and no crew left to operate.
