Secretary of State John Kerry pledged $380 million in new American assistance on Wednesday to help civilians who are suffering because of the civil war in Syria.
The pledge came as Ban Ki-moon, the United Nations Secretary General, told a donor conference here that $6.5 billion was needed to provide medical care, food, water and shelter for Syrian refugees and civilians inside the country through 2014.
That is the largest appeal for assistance in the history of the United Nations. It comes as the number of Syrian refugees has grown and conditions inside the country have dramatically deteriorated.

Thank God. Not like the vets needed that money....
Over a dollar from each American man, woman and child. Money that has to be borrowed from China that will end up in various warlord and strongmen's hands.
What a country the US has become. The Founders weep.

I’d like to hear John and Barry explain how they arrived at that figure, and, how it will ease the suffering of those affected by the civil war. Call me cynical but the money won’t go any farther than the guy who gets the check.

I want to know which Muslim faction this $380 million check will be handed to. This is like the humanitarian equivalent of Fast and Furious.

I’m surprised they’re not redistributing the full 6.5 billion. I mean, what the hell, right? Why not? Income inequality and all that...

China stopped loaning us money years ago. The Fed now directly monetizes our debt with new money. That’s why the stock market is constantly hitting new highs.
