When the 2014 Academy Awards nominees were announced early Thursday, all ears were attuned to the expected names. Jared Leto, Lupita Nyong’o, Cate Blanchett, Matthew McConaughey and Bruce Dern given nods in their respective categories? Check.

“Gravity,” “American Hustle” and “12 Years a Slave” dominating nominations for acting, writing, directing and best picture? No big surprises there, and all as it should be.

Then, you cry. No nomination for Robert Redford for his astonishing one-man show in the gripping seafaring thriller “All Is Lost”? Outrage! No Tom Hanks, who delivered such a subtle tour de force in “Captain Phillips”? The nerve! No Oprah Winfrey or Forest Whitaker for their superb performances in “Lee Daniels’ The Butler”? Robbed, I tell you, robbed!. . .

Hollywood, filled with bigots and racists. They probably didn't think Oprah could afford a new purse for Oscar night.

I haven’t seen “All is Lost” but really want to. I hear from friends that Redford was amazing. They kept saying he was a shoe-in for a nomination.

I have never watched a celebrity award show. Why people get caught up in these, I’ll never know.

There is no need to fawn over a large group of people who would otherwise wish you to be interned in an “education camp”.

Oprah Windbag’s other recent performances (saying that lots of old white people need to just die so racism can end, and the whole B.S. incident in Sweden with the shop girl not showing her the expensive purse) might have had a lot to do with this too.

Remember that story from a few years ago, when Barbra Streisand said she didn't want Oprah attending one of her parties because she (Barbra) knew Oprah wouldn't stop bugging her "to be on her stupid TV network."

I can't remember if the party in question was to be held at Barbra's house, or if she had told someone who invited her to a party that she wouldn't show up if Oprah was there.

I never did hear about the old people remark as far as that one goes the HollyweirD they do however care about material things so that could be the one.

Oprah is a no talent black woman that should stick to her talk shows..like a lot of these so called black actors with no talent they get jobs because they are black..and pets to the producers and directors..Just like the queers all actress have to have a queer BFF as a pet it makes them with the in crowd..

Perhaps with all the praise given to 12 Years A Slave, they couldn’t see nominating Oprah and The Butler? I mean, would two movies about oppression of black people be too much for the awards????
