Obama to Dems: Boehner will pass immigration reform in 2014

President Obama has told Senate Democrats he expects Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to pass immigration reform this year, defying predictions the issue is dead for 2014.

Obama believes Republicans will feel politically vulnerable if they fail to advance the issue, a high priority among Hispanic voters, according to Democratic senators who met with the president this week.

Obama sees immigration reform as a source for optimism in what has otherwise shaped up as a tough year for Democrats. “He predicted the House would pass something this year,” said Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), who attended the meeting.

Obama cautioned senators to brace themselves for difficult negotiations with House Republicans later this year.

“He said we’re then all going to have a challenging conversation,” Kaine added. “He said it was more likely than not the House would do something.”

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), the lead sponsor of the Senate-passed immigration bill, described Obama as “cautiously optimistic” after the meeting.

ADVERTISEMENT “I think our Republican colleagues realize that to be blocking immigration reform is not good for them,” Schumer added. Boehner has made several recent moves giving Obama and his Democratic allies hope, such as hiring Rebecca Tallent to serve as his new director of immigration policy. She previously worked for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a co-sponsor of the Senate immigration bill.

Boehner plans to unveil a set of Republican principles for immigration reform before Obama’s Jan. 28 State of the Union address.

“Last time I checked, Boehner only had one vote in the house same as any other Representative....”

He’s the Speaker. He has the power to bring bills to the floor, and pass them with democrat votes.

Otherwise, why would he lead the GOP to the political gallows by giving amnesty to millions of new Democrat voters?

Two other options come to mind. 1) He's bought and paid for by the big business lobby. 2) He's dumber than the 3rd squirt of goose shit.

a first class idiot that Boehner.

He now has Obama shilling for him.

If this was all about cheap labor, don’t pass amnesty for the Latin Americans who have crawled over the wire to get here.

Just import millions of Somalians and Bangladeshis.

They are much more plentiful

Here the kenyan is running the Dem game plan: divide the GOP.

The GOP response to these jabs has been ham handed and buffoonish. Instead of returning fire they happily stab conservatives in the back. The beltway GOP would rather attack us than engage the rampaging marxists. That’s why they lose.

Good for Democrats = bad.

Can somebody send the above to Boehner? I don’t think he has this equation memorized.

Is Boehner deliberately trying to destroy the Republican Party?

“Is Boehner deliberately trying to destroy the Republican Party?”

No, I’ve concluded they’re plan is to do literally everything to piss conservatives off...intentionally. From spending to amnesty to whatever. They are pissed that we are standing against them and threatening their power so they are fighting back. They want us to abandon them so they’ll have their party back all to themselves and can continue their fun game of power.

And what party will that be other than a permanent minority one?

“Because that is what their #1 source of corporate money is telling them.”

The more we lowered their taxes the less conservative they are. The fewer wealthy conservative Republicans thier are and the more feckless the remaining ones are. Big mistake.

This is Barry talking. I'll believe it when Boner slams the gavel down.

Obama to halt part of NSA phone program

Boner will pass immigration reform, thus ending the Republican party, because Obama’s NSA phone program has dug up Boner’s dirt.

No Republican running for office would be craze to come out in support of amnesty.

They are not going to call it amnesty. From the article:

A Senate Democratic aide said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) will take the lead on the trickiest element of reform, legislation to legalize an estimated 11 million illegal residents.

“The path will likely be a legalization bill that offers a path to citizenship through existing channels,” said the aide.

Left-leaning advocates of immigration reform say a proposal that would use existing processes to grant citizenship to a greater number of immigrants could serve as a viable alternative.

“Yes, with the provision that the existing channels are large enough,” said Brent Wilkes, national executive director of the League of United Latin American Citizens.

“These things may sound arbitrary, but they give different members in tough districts the ability to vote against different parts of immigration reform,” he said. “If some members need to take a walk on certain aspects of it, House leaders will let them do it.”

Obama expects these bills will add up to a series of reforms that can then be negotiated with the Senate.

The bottom line is that the GOPe think they can fool us. They will not call it amnesty, just using existing channels to provide a path to citizenship.
