The holiday data breach at Target Corp. appeared to be part of a broad and highly sophisticated international hacking campaign against multiple retailers, according to a report prepared by federal and private investigators that was sent to financial-services companies and retailers. […]

Parts of the malicious computer code used against Target’s credit-card readers had been on the Internet’s black market since last spring and were partly written in Russian, people familiar with the report said. Both details suggest the attack may have ties to organized crime in the former Soviet Union, former U.S. officials said. …

So why can’t the NSA find these people?
Their target is not criminals but US!

Why this country isn’t already a smoking crater can only be explained by the notion that intact, there is so much wealth to rip off here that it’s vastly more intelligent to keep us alive. We’re the world’s golden tumor.

Ding, ding, ding - we have a winnah!

Washing machines too - the ones that can self-diagnose and call the repair center...

I’m amazed that the NSA database isn’t partially funded with stolen credit card funds.

Can you prove that it isn't?

Honestly, you shouldn’t be allowing your refrigerator to access your wireless network.
I periodically check my network to see who is accessing it. Since none of my neighbors can access it, it helps to know who is using it.

What is that? A bitlocker?

At first I felt safe with this whole Target business. I didn’t shop there during the official dates given.
I have shopped there occasionally over the past year - so now we know the hackers have our “guest info” - name, address, phone number.
I’m pretty sure they don’t have my email.

I have - twice- received strange texts trying to entice me into visiting links I never clicked on.
I just deleted the texts, and so far that seems to be my only problem.

The Bitlocker virus encrypts your hard drive (and any attached drives) and offers to give you the key to unlock them for several thousand dollars.
I’s one of the reasons for using a virtual machine for normal web browsing and email.

I never gave Target any info so I am not worried about Target.

I’m using Oracle’s VirtualBox on Ubuntu to host a Windows7 OS running a huge .net application that uses a specialized bit of usb hardware. Oddly this all works pretty well, modulo any program droppage of usb hardware. This has to be manually reattached to the VM (mouse clicking) when this happens. All of this is free except the Windows7 copy, and it needs to be a fully licenced copy, unburdened of a particular pc.
