Sonja Power is a 17-year-old girl who was told her Aikido class would be divided by gender, men on one side, women on the other, in order to accommodate a Muslim man who enrolled in the class.
The class was run out of the Lakeside Community Centre, owned by the city of Halifax. The city and the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission both supported this gender segregation.
All of that bugs me, but it was what Sonja and her mother, Michele Walsh, told Sun News was the reaction of the sensei when they complained.
"You better get used to it because this is going to happen more and more in Canada," is how Walsh remembers sensei Steve Nickerson responding.
My initial reaction was, "I bloody well won’t get used to it," but now I realize I may not have a choice.
Gender segregation and other unreasonable accommodations will happen more and more, but not because I want it or you want it. It will happen because of cowardly political leaders and bizarre, twisted human rights commissions that no longer believe in real human rights.

This is happening in Canada today. It will be in the United States by the end of the decade.

And sadly, I have to agree with you - it’s more in Canada now, but it’s going to be the “norm” in the U.S. sooner than any of us would like to admit.
It won't be in America by the end of the decade if Americans do the right things. That 7-11 down the road from me that is run by Paki's ... I don't go there. When I see Mooslims in the grocery store with their Mooslim dress get looks from me that say, "Go back from where you came. You are not welcome here." My children when they were growing up were not allowed to play with Mooslims. I will never hire a Mooslim.
They are not Americans. They do not want to be Americans as long as they they maintain their cult worshiping beliefs.
If we don't fight this battle without bloodshed in everyday life today, we will be fighting a battle with bloodshed, on our own ground in the not too distant future.
Oh, Canada, how far will you take this? Will you allow wife beating by Muslim husbands since the Koran sanctions it?
In the late ‘70s, I was an electronic drafter, I had to work directly with engineers, one was an islamics.
He would not talk to me about the change orders he needed, just threw the drawings on my table.
It doesn’t work that way, the draft has to be able to ask questions for clarifications.
He refused to work with me, our bods said assigned drafters were random, he had no choice, funny from that point on I always got his work.
I would bet today he’d get his way.

Perhaps wife beating will be frowned upon but then there is always that more acceptable alternative — honor killing.
I actually agree with this. Women should not be doing martial arts training with men for a lot of reasons that have nothing to do with religion.
You learn more in martial arts working with all sorts of bodies -- big, small, short, and tall. Aikido requires a certain finesse that you only learn by getting the techniques to work on smaller, weaker workout partners -- using muscle alone does not teach you where you blend with the partner to steal their balance. I am 6'5", 275lbs and had several workout partners much smaller and lighter who had no trouble turning me into origami. But I learned a great deal about the techniques by having to do them properly, feeling their body respond rather than try to crush them. And there is always someone bigger or stronger that you can not crush so learning the techniques is essential. Hopefully the young lady in the story can find a more useful class and a smarter sensei.

I want to start a religion that forbids me to be in the presence of muzzlems.
If the rest of the class agrees with her, they could easily make their stance known by quitting this particular class and letting the teacher have his one muslim pupil. Or would that be too much of a sacrifice for a great principle?

A woman needs to learn how to defend herself against a man.
The only thing that this guarantees is that more women will be raped by muslim men.
That said, I can see only pitting the muzzie against other men, but no reason to totally segregate the whole deal for one person.

On a return flight from Florida, an overweight orthodox jew sits next to a women already seated minutes later gets up and a stewardess confronts women and tells her you have to change your seat becuase this man cannot sit this closley to a women.
