John Cornyn: We can't win in 2016 without resolving immigration reform

Clearly immigration was why we lost in 2012. It had nothing to do with a milquetoast Republican candidate who had been on both sides of so many issues that a good portion of Republican voters just stayed home. No, forget the moderate candidate. It was the Hispanic vote that killed us!

Also, I’ve got some unicorns in my back yard I’ll be glad to sell you on the cheap.

NEWSMAX – The House Republican leadership is expected to release a one-page list of principles governing immigration reform efforts next week that for the first time backs legal status for undocumented immigrants.

But the plan falls short of providing for an immediate pathway to citizenship as outlined in the comprehensive Senate bill passed last year.

House Speaker John Boehner, with the support of Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, Republican Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, is expected to circulate the plan to GOP members before it is publicly released ahead of President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address Jan. 28.

Rep. Lee Terry told the Journal the move could help win hard-to-get GOP support.

“If it doesn’t lead to a pathway to citizenship, I think you will get more people to at least embrace that or be OK with that,” the Nebraska Republican said. However, he added, “It will still be a very difficult sell.”

"First off, deport all illegal aliens. Next, build a HUGE fence at the Mexican border- have guard dogs, double the Border Patrol guards (and give them more authority to enforce the laws we already have on the books)..."

I couldn't disagree with you more. Guard dogs have no business being anywhere near the crocodile infested moat I envision.

I can’t get my hands around why so many Repubs think all these new Hispanic Voters will ever vote Republican?

They aren't stupid. They know the Hispanics will never vote for the Republican Party. They don't care. If they enact Amnesty and don't get re elected they'll just slide over to a cushy lobbyist or law firm job or, better yet, a no-show job provided by the same Crony Corporatists pushing for Amnesty.

“It will still be a very difficult sell.”

Where has this fool been for the last ten years. Selling immigration reform requires two preconditions.

1. Convince the people that the enforcement provisions will be enforced.

2. Listen to the American people when they say what they want the immigration system to do.

Immigration reform will remain toxic as long as it is viewed as something that is being done to the American people, and that enforcement will only be done to those in the outs from the current regime when they are pressed.

It’s easy when you have the right judges:

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — The Dominican Republic’s top court on Thursday stripped citizenship from thousands of people born to migrants who came illegally, a category that overwhelmingly includes Haitians brought in to work on farms.

The decision cannot be appealed, and it affects all those born since 1929.

The Constitutional Court’s ruling says officials are studying birth certificates of more than 16,000 people and notes that electoral authorities have refused to issue identity documents to 40,000 people of Haitian descent.

The decision, which gives the electoral commission a year to produce a list of those to be excluded, is a blow to activists who have tried to block what they call “denationalization” of many residents.

“This is outrageous,” said Ana Maria Belique, spokeswoman for a nonprofit group that has fought for the rights of migrants’ children. “It’s an injustice based on prejudice and xenophobia.”

Until 2010, the Dominican Republic followed the principle of automatically bestowing citizenship to anyone born on its soil. But the court ruled that all Haitian migrants who came to work in Dominican sugarcane fields after 1929 were in transit, and thus their children were not automatically entitled to citizenship just because they were born here.

If anyone of y'all get a hankering...send a few bucks to your favorite primary candidate in the Cornyn race.

I believe all we have to do is get Cornyn under 50% of the vote and a runoff is generated. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm supporting Steve Stockman....he’z the fella they are attacking with venom. Means he’z my man.

Just sent a donation to his campaign...boom!

The big question about Cornyn and re-election is:

When Cornyn loses in the republican primary, will he run in the general election as a democrat or an independent?

I agree - but by “wall” I hope “manned by machinegunners” and “surrounded by landmines” are implied.

Are these Quisling traitors just cowards, or are they being blackmailed?

The quisling traitors are cowards who are having bags of money shoved at them, under a threat of blackmail.

I can’t get my hands around why so many Repubs think all these new Hispanic Voters will ever vote Republican?

The RINOs selling 'immigration reform' already know that new Hispanic voters will vote Democrat. The ugly truth is that they fully support that, because they've fully embraced being the fake opposition party.

They've become big government statists, and only seek to achieve some measure of control over the process of transforming America into a full blown Socialist state.

Are you seeing or hearing any media spots [billboards, newspaper, flyers, yard signs, etc.], for the other seven opponents?

I remember when Ted Cruz was running against David Dewhurst for the Senate. If he ran any commercials on radio or TV, I don't remember them.

I do remember Dewhurst's, though. Day and night carpet bombing ads.

My first hearing about Cruz was on FR and through emails from Texas Tea Party groups. That was all it took for me to become aware of him, and apparently, a winning majority of other conservatives. Sarah Palin came in and endorsed him in the runoff election, and that was that.

Multi-million dollar ad campaigns and high name recognition aren't enough to win anymore. At least not on the right side of the aisle. The information quotient among Republican voters is becoming too high to fool them with slick campaigns (ref: Romney 2012).
