NJ mayor: Christie aides held Sandy recovery money hostage

The mayor of a New Jersey city that sustained severe flooding from Hurricane Sandy claims the Christie administration withheld millions of dollars in recovery grants because she refused to sign off on a politically connected development.

Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer tells The Associated Press that Gov. Chris Christie’s lieutenant governor and a top community development official said recovery funds would flow to her city if the commercial development went forward. MSNBC first reported her comments Saturday.

Zimmer says Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno pulled her aside at a May event and told her unless the project is approved “we are not going to be able to help you.”

Ubungu and his administration do this all the time. The stooge media barely reports it. They write it off as “politics”. But let a Republican do the same...

Remember when the Ubungu regime refused to help at Texas after some fires a few years ago. Due to Rick Perry being a Republican governor.

They needed a GOP target to take the attention off Obamacare. Looks like Christie's it.

Several of the last Governors in IL went to jail. Were these national headliners for weeks? Nope.

Seriously? Does the liberal press really want to open up this can of drek?

Fine, let's take "a more comprehensive look" at Illinois politics BEFORE Barack became a household name sham...and not the media white-wash that was done on his behalf.

Pay for play? race-pimp shakedown artists? urban voter fraud? union corruption?...

anyone?...anyone?...Bueller?

...all that sleaze...and Obama comes out...pure as driven snow...

Yeah...riiiight...

"Ubungu and his administration do this all the time. The stooge media barely reports it."

It's wrong when a governor does it. It's worse when a President does it. They both deserve to go down.

I lived in Hoboken. Great town for the young professional because of the accesibilty to Manhattan. Anyway, Hoboken politics. I think it was the 95 mayor’s election of Hoboken. A bartender of a popular bar had been written on the ballot by hundreds of people, as a laugh. I think he got some crap about that , even though he did not “endorse “ it. The election committee had some issue certifying the election. It was humorous at the time. Lastly, I think Eli Manning endorsed this mayor during the recent November election.

Forget about Chicago ... let's just look at Hoboken itself.

The mayor in this article replaced her predecessor -- Peter J. Cammarano -- when he was indicted after only 22 days in office on a number of charges related to a Federal investigation in a major money laundering operation. That Federal investigation dated back to 2002, which means Chris Christie was certainly involved closely in the case as the U.S. Attorney for New Jersey.

Sandy made landfall in New Jersey on October 29, 2012 so that event in May 2013 would have been more than 6 months later. Obviously, it wasn't emergency assistance. I'm guessing that Hoboken received (a bunch) of state help prior to this. Is Zimmer saying that she didn't receive any help from the state to clean up after Sandy? Or that she didn't receive as much state money as she might have wanted months after the storm?

(May 2013 was about the time that several nearby beach towns were putting potted palm trees on the boardwalks to spend all the Sandy aid money that they were receiving. IIRC, they didn't have potted palms before Sandy, and of course palms can't survive outdoors in our winters.)

Here’s how it works: (MHO)

Lib supporters practice moral relativism. It’s their religion, regardless of what they SAY their religion or moral code is.

Lib Pols are the same, but their religion is power, the end of which is dictatorship. They will never approve of nor understand conservatism nor even the Constitution.

Republican supporters are leaderless; the republican party has been hijacked by liberals the way that the democrat party has been.

Conservative supporters have very few leaders.

Republican pols are either conservative or liberal. the conservatives pols are so knocked around by liberals, and the closer they are to being liberal, the easier they turn into liberals.

Republican pols are highly abused, the closer they are to being conservative.

When republican pols are completely conservative, they, and their supporters, are completely abused by libs. In this case, republican supporters beg these pols to go to the other side for relief.

But republican liberals never ever stand a chance. THey are duped. Tey are never allowed on the first tier of liberal pols, those spots are reserved for democrat pols (purists).

The closer a republican is to being a lib, the more support he gets from everyone, esp his supporters, who, just as he is exposed for being corrupt, like any other lib, is dumped by his fair weather republican supporters and everyone else, who tell him, how dare you try to be a liberal republican.

And he is out.

This all has nothing to do with the US, its constitution, economic health, moral superiority, nor future.

conservative pols who ask for approval from the democrat pols and supporters will be smashed every time they come near to being in power.

conservative pols cannot care at all about libs, in the same way libs NEVER ever care about conservative approval.

The pure conservative, America loving constitutional scholar and adherent, unapologetic, uncorrupt, think outside of the fundraising and PR box, will win the next pres election over anyone including Hillary.

As if there's ever, in the history of New Jersey, a development that wasn't "politically connected."

Hell, you still can't paint your curb in NJ's urban areas without giving Bob Toricelli a lollipop and throwing some nickels on Frank Lautenberg's grave.

It sounds like the Christie Administration was saying there was relief funds available for a certain development, but the mayor of Hoboken prefers the method where you give the Democrat the money first, and then they decide what to do with it.
