Lone Survivor and Insufferable Anti-American Self-Righteousness
Patheos ^ | January 15, 2014 | David French

As the war in Afghanistan winds down, and as the American public is increasingly “war weary” (a phrase I find fascinating since at any given time only 0.6 percent of Americans are in uniform, and the vast majority of Americans have endured not one single second of sacrifice for the war effort since 9/11), anti-military and anti-American sentiment may be rediscovering its Vietnam-era voice. The vehicle for the latest two minutes’ hate is a bit curious, however. Lone Survivor tells the story of a SEAL mission gone wrong and the resulting firefight where a small band of SEALs displayed remarkable courage under fire. But they showed more than courage. An act of humanity sealed their fate — the decision to free Afghan civilians that stumbled into their path. With their own lives on the line, they obeyed American rules of engagement, obeyed the laws of war, and conducted themselves with honor (with one SEAL posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor).

So how do some in the left-wing press write about this movie? Here’s L.A. Weekly:

"These four men were heroes. But these heroes were also men. As the film portrays them, their attitudes to the incredibly complex War on Terror, fought hillside by bloody hillside in the Afghan frontier with both U.S. and Taliban forces contributing to an unconscionably high civilian body count, were simple: Brown people bad, American people good."

I'm even amazed the movie was made in the first place, given how anti American most of the movers and shakers in Hollywood are.

I’m going to see it this week, even if I have to go alone.

Saw it and even posted a link on FR to the movie.
The ROE were incredibly stupid.
THAT is what got these men killed

Macrus kind of lucked out that the pashtun villager took him in.

FUBO! Barack Obama has these men wandering with no real backup.

I went and saw it yesterday with my 22 yo son. It is the most remarkable war movie ever made. And it will leave you SEETHING after watching our guys honorably following the ROE set out by our “commanders” and politicians. I’m still boiling mad about it.

I'm usually not one for movies given the junk that is usually promoted, but this would be one I would see. The last movie I saw was Vin Diesel's latest "Riddick" movie which the critics hated (too macho, etc...) and of course was a great movie.

Thank God for the internet - if the legacy media was my only news source I would wonder if everyone had gone full commie-lib.

You know we’ve got the commie DemocRATS on the run when they have to throw the race card into a movie review. Communists are losers. They’ve always been losers. Eventually, the population figures out the game and the communists fall.

BTW: I find it ironic that “Lone Survivor” was pushed out of the number one spot this week by a black comedian saying, “You’re white! You’re white! You don’t fight!” Hmmmm.

The ROE were incredibly stupid.

I thought the planning was stupid. first as one seal said, it had too many moving parts. Secondly, why situate the team in an area where communications are blocked by a mountain?

To the left it is an outrage to portray anyone in the American military as patriotic, decent or brave. Thats why all military conflicts must be portrayed as motivated by racism or greed.

Saw it.

The most heartbreaking part was when the Seals decided to let the three sheperds go knowing full well that they had just signed their death sentence.

They had no back up.

The Rules of Engagement help them and us, the Pentagon gets some things right.

Americans do not willfully murder innocent unarmed kids and old men/non combatants.

People would not volunteer for a military that expects that.

Navy SEALs do not hold their lives as more sacred than those of anyone else.

Their job involves risk; their moral code is not like that of “The Reservoir Dogs”, murdering witnesses.

They would not endanger their souls, and they are working for the American government, regardless of journalists anti military inflammatory stance, the United States has a moral code, the military one dictated by experts at the Pentagon.

If journalists would care to point this out, fine, but the SEALs are not as dictated to by journalists as they are the military command.

OK, no. Commanders are not evil and trying to kill their guys. Certainly not as a rule. Our guys were killed by the Taliban.

Any military guy needs to know that when he does his job, facing imminent death for our country, that he is not endangering his soul.

They were not going to murder those people, it was just a passing thought. The radios were expected to work. It was a bad mission.
