Militant Islamist rebels in Syria linked to Al-Qaeda have asked for understanding and forgiveness for cutting off and putting on display the wrong mans head.
In a public appearance filmed and posted online, members of Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham, one brandishing a knife, held up a bearded head before a crowd in Aleppo. They triumphantly described the execution of what they said was a member of an Iraqi Shia militia fighting for President Bashar Al-Assad.
But the head was recognised from the video as belonging to a member of Ahrar Al-Sham, a Sunni Islamist rebel group that often fights alongside ISIS though it does not share its Al-Qaeda ideology.
After inquiries, an ISIS spokesman admitted he was Mohammed Fares, an Ahrar commander reported missing some days ago. This could not be independently confirmed, but in an earlier video of a speech by Mr Fares he bears a close resemblance to the severed head in the later video. The Syrian Observatory of Human Rights, which monitors deaths in the Syrian conflict, and several activists on social media, said that ISIS misunderstood comments that the man made referring to the Imams Ali and Hussein, the founding fathers of Shiism.
The ISIS spokesman, Omar Al-Qahtani, made reference to a story in which Mohammed said Allah would forgive a man who killed a believer in error. He said that Mr Fares had been injured and, thinking he had been captured by members of the Shia militia against which he was fighting, asked them to kill him in terms misunderstood by the ISIS members when in fact he meant taking him to hospital.

You really did make me LOL!
Big surprise coming up for those guys.
Where does it say the 72 virgins are female?
So what is barbaric to them?
***
It appears that the answer to that question would be petting a dog.
And, now that you mention it, their god is “evil incarnate”, aka, satan.
You have a sharp wit.

A pointed comment....
about some woman who was stoned or put to death for offenses against them. I dont read of men being put to death for doing something against them.

About the stoning, I think it was Rush that mentioned that Islamic Law says a woman about to be stoned is buried up to her shoulders/neck.
A man is buried up to his chest.
With the inference being that if one can dig oneself out while still alive, he/she is freed.
The sexism comes to play when it is easier for the ‘stronger’ male to dig himself out as he has free use of both arms (providing, of course, they were left intact) while ‘weaker’ woman has less mobility with her arms cause she is buried to her neck....
ask for “understanding” that they chopped the head off an innocent person?
wow

Actually I go back to the Nam theory.
When you have them by the gonads, their hearts and minds will soon tag along.
AND
Since you didn’t really know what to expect in a new village or area - “Kill ‘em all! God will sort them out later”.
Kind of gross but very effective when it comes to saving your own 6.
(of course this line was (supposedly) traced to a Popes spokesman back in the Crusades)
Before I lived those five YEARS in the KSA, my perception was like yours. Our media do a real hate-number on anything Arab or middle east. I don't know why--we are SO reliant on their petroleum.
Anyway, after living there for so long, my perspective changed. I worked with 30 Saudis and my boss was a WONDERFUL, kind, middle-aged Saudi man.
I met the usual jerks there, as one does throughout the planet. Jerks are non-denominational, with ANY nationality, EITHER gender and all faiths. But, I took'em as I met'em and mostly they were just ordinary people.
True story:
When I got there I found that in the mornings all the guys smelled just fine. The Saudis don't use deodorant, after-shave or jewelry. I don't mention the newer young punks but the standard Saudi Joe-Schmoes from Kokomo.
Anyway, I had a talk with my boss...that the guys stank by mid afternoon. That's when he told me about the deodorant. Saudi men DON'T use it because the deodorants were all made in the west and had heavy scents and the Saudi men use NO scent. They bathe, wear clean clothes every day but NO scent.
So, I went to the commissary, used only by us Americans, and got a hold of some ARID extra dry deodorant--UNSCENTED.
I took it to Mohammad and showed him...let him have it to show the other men.
VOILA!!! After a week or so, no more late afternoon stinky Saudis. They all used the UNSCENTED deodorant.
Hah, small victory for my nose.
No more stonings in Saudi Arabia.
If some STUPID American decided to try to sneak in some drugs or booze, then THEY would be sent home. There is NO stoning, at all, just an occasional hand/head chopping and the guy has to be REALLY bad. The Saudis use jail and prison more now.
We did hear ONCE of a head chopping. They always do that in the center plaza on Friday mornings. Their weekends are Thursdays and Fridays, their Fridays being their holy day.
We COULD have gone there to see the head chopping but I never wanted to be NEAR any of that. The guy whose head was chopped off had committed a murder.
We also heard of a hand chopping. THAT only happens when the guy has done the same crap over and over and over and over. The FIRST chop is the left hand. There were never trees in Saudi Arabia....thus no paper...thus no toilet paper. I did ask: well, what did they use: clean sand to wipe themselves. Yuck.
Anyway the right hand was for eating and the left hand for toilet stuff. NOW there is PLENTY of paper because the Saudis can import EVERYTHING. Plenty of toilet paper to go around.
Sometime, if the guy is a real ahole the FIRST hand chopping is the right hand and that is horrible because that means he had to eat with his toilet hand.
Remember, they had no water either to wash with...just clean sand. Double yuck.
Now the hand choppings are just punitive...and they can use paper to wipe.
Saudi women are NEVER publicly beaten, whipped or otherwise humiliated. The Saudi women's prison (only one) is for the very worst women who kill, steal and so on. They have their share of ahole women too, as all cultures to...but NO public humiation for women, ever, at all.
I know a fellow whose uncle from East Texas was working in Saudi——the oil bidness of course.
Several years back the uncle drove to a Saudi shopping center and upon leaving his car blew up from a car bomb.
The Saudi police tried to claim it was a suicide and not an American targeted by terrorists.
Awl bidness?
Was your friend's uncle someone important?
Hard to figure out why anyone would target hid car unless he was someone important. I hope your friend's uncle wasn't hurt.
Honestly..., it doesn’t surprise me at all. The U. S. Left has sided with ever enemy we’ve had since WWII.
Yes, that’s my take too.
Where there’s good, there’s bad.
Where there’s God, there’s Satan.
Where there’s love and understanding, there is Islam.
All true I suppose. When I hear of some woman being stoned because she was raped, I don’t hear of what the man’s penalty was. That leaves me to think he got away with it.
Good move.
I do want to caution you from thinking that your situation in Saudi Arabia was on a par with the Afghanistan and Pakistan countryside.
I am sure you know this, but for anyone reading along, I think it’s worth mentioning.
Saudi is a more financially and modernized society, even if the Wahabbi (Sp / term?) sect is stridently anti-West.
It is true that not everyone is against us. The problem is that there is a reasoned percentage that are, and when they are they’ll do anything to hurt us.
Can’t take that lightly.
In the countryside of the poorer nations, the people are under pressure to deal with the terrorists. Whatever happens is our fault. And this breeds enemies, that in time will take a bite out of us.
It’s unfortunate, but you have to realize this and act accordingly.
Personally, I wouldn’t allow 30,000+ Saudis to be here on education visas. Osama Ben Ladin and other terrorists have been educated here, only to focus on us later with insight into our society they would not have otherwise had.
This is a problem I don’t see an answer to, other than avoiding exposure. I don’t like it, but then there are so few alternatives.
Thank you. Good to know.
Look..., I’m actually a person who understands the benefit the Saudis have been to us over the decades. When the oil cartel was in full swing, the Saudis interceded on our behalf. They talked sense to the other cartel members.
Yes, the populace of Saudi Arabia has been problematic. The 09/11 events were perpetrated mostly by Saudi citizens.
There is talk here of the leadership changing in Saudi Arabia being a good thing. I don’t believe that at all. The leadership does keep things in check, although it doesn’t do it with an iron fist.
You get a less moderate, less Western influenced king in there, and all hell would break loose.
Saudi Arabia isn’t perfect, but it is not angry at us, seeking to do us harm, and it’s leadership does not give us trouble around the planet.
It could be a hell of a lot worse. Iran is a great example of how we could screw ourselves big-time if we withdrew friendship and support from the Saudi leadership.
What I wrote earlier is reality. It’s something we need to be aware of and in some instances act on. I think the leadership in Saudi Arabia would understand fully too.
“Syrian rebels accidentally decapitate the wrong man”......
Ya seen one, ya seen ‘em all. Off with their heads.
The quote from a Pope is>>>
“Kill them all, God will know His own” ... Pope Innocent III
“Put it back! Put it back! Quick, bring the duct tape!”
