‘To Those Who Would Call Me a Thug or Worse …’

I show passion on the football field—but that’s only a small part of who I am. If you want to judge me, I can handle it.

What a night, and what a finish.

Near midnight I still had about 70 unread text messages from friends and family, most of which read, “Best interview ever!” Many of my Twitter mentions were less supportive. My body ached. I was thrilled and proud and upset, all at once.

Here’s what happened …

Richard, you have to set things right with the kids who watch football.

If you want them to think that thug-in-your-face behavior is ok, let this stand.

But if you want them to act like adults, you have some ‘splainin’ to do.

The NFL is becoming the NBA... The hip-hop, thug, “you gotta respect me” culture is beginning to show itself in the NFL...

This with the rule changes will make the NFL unwatchable within 5 years...

I think the Broncos will wait until the third play from scrimmage and then send him a message —

Sherman own words and explanation makes him classless. Crabtree didn’t say anything to him but pushed him off and walked away and Sherman decides thats enough to go off? He then use the choke sign towards Colin, the game is over he needs to celebrate with his team instead of rubbing it in to the opposing team that just lost on basically a last play of the game. He then explains how great he is.

Richard Sherman writes a column every week that lets you see inside his head and heart. He is well educated (4.0 from Stanford) and well spoken. He has nothing but praise for Peyton Manning. Did you even read the whole article?

I don’t know who was being a thug or not, but the reason there is all this gyrating self-aggrandizing capering and jerky chest thumping in the NBA and NFL is because it is hard to have self-policing from players per the rules. Much greater risk of affecting the outcome of the game with the penalty system, modern officiating and all the reviewable camera shots. Football is especially bad because of the limited number of games per season, can’t risk any retaliation for someone being a jerk and get a penalty if every game is so important.

“If he played baseball would get a high and tight fastball.”

—Justin Verlander via twitter

That’s why nobody breaks out the self-congratulatory dance moves and pointing after a routine single in MLB.

I thought his rant was GREAT, and no I am not a Hawks fan. Erin Andrews is a ditz. "Who was talking about you?". Seriously? Where the hell have you been all week?
and Pam Oliver looked ridiculous in that wig and asked the dumbest questions of Harbaugh after the game. Enough with this sideline eye candy chicks. They know nothing about football and add nothing to this man's game.

Yep.

The NFL is in dire need of a change in leadership at the very top. Even Paul Tagliabue would be a major improvement over the extremely useless Goodell.

If this guy was the ignoramus who verbally upchucked a bunch of “ho yo mo suckah” crap into the camera immediately after the game... he was an embarrassment to humanity.

I give Sherman a pass. He is NOT a thug. No one can convince me otherwise.

.........

He certainly talks like a thug...if it walks like a duck....

Good to read this from Sherman’s blog:

“One thing I can’t accept is what I read after the game about Seahawks fans throwing food at 49ers linebacker Navorro Bowman as he was being carted off the field with his knee injury. If it’s true, it’s beyond terrible. That’s as low as it gets. I’m sure whoever did this is in a small minority of fans, because I don’t think that kind of action is an accurate representation of the character of the 12th man. Navorro Bowman is a great player who plays the game the right way. When he went down, I dropped to a knee and prayed for him. He deserves better than having food thrown at him as he’s carted off a field. All players deserve better than that.”

Nike is peddling their hideous schemes on other schools as well. Saw both Texas A&M and Baylor wearing gray snake-skin looking uniforms this year.

Okay, now I've read the entire article. Richard is articulate and panders as required. So what in that article tells you he is not a punk inside, haughty and prideful, with an 'I'm the greatest and you better acknowledge it or you're ignorant' attitude?

There is no question that he is extremely talented, smart, and a tremendous asset to the Seahags team. There is also no question that those who hold his contract ignore anything else that isn't related to on-field play and preparation. Sherman is a commodity to them. Nothing more. MAybe if the Seahags win the Super Bowl, Sherman will grow up. We'll see.

It will be a most interesting game, I'm sure you will agree. As to Denver focusing on Sherman, well, game prep will find as many weak spots as possible in an excellent defense, then Peyton will seek to exploit them. I don't think Sherman is a weakness, so I don't expect they will try to exploit him. Trash talkin' has always been a part of the psyche in professional football. It works to switch focus of some players so it will remain a part of the game.

“What happened to the Sea-hawk’s uniform? It used to pretty nice. Now it looks like crap.”

I think it’s being worn by the Philadelphia Eagles now — and we HATE it, BTW. Bring back the kelly-green uniforms of the Randall Cunningham days!

Good article. The writer seems to know what's what.

This jaw-jacking goes on all the time between the opposition, especially between DBs vs. Receivers. I see that many people don't seem to know what or that it does go on. The smack talk motivates the players to play at a high level - an edge. If you want to win, being nice on the football field doesn't cut it. In other words, it's a winning 'tude, in Sherman's mind and many other players. What people saw was an unvarnished look at the minds of what players are thinking while they are on the playing, field, especially in the NFL.

Sherman is only guilty of expressing his emotions and thoughts only moments before winning a trip to the Super Bowl and defeating his opposition in battle.

From the article - 6. In other words, he might have just been auditioning for the WWE

I thought the same and I was amused LoL, and I understood the man's mindset. The reporterette seemed to be taken back by it, and was probably not the best person to do that interview moments after the heat on the plays.
