Bill de Blasio: the Left's Nutty Professor Transforming New York into a Giant Political Petri Dish
Yahoo! News UK & Ireland / IBT ^ | January 20, 2014 | Joseph Curl

Bill de Blasio swept into office on a pledge to transform New York's 'tale of two cities' by ending income inequality, raising taxes on the evil 1%, doling out free or reduced-cost housing for poor and working-class residents, and establishing that all-important job-creating engine, pre-kindergarten education.

But just three weeks into his tenure as mayor of America's biggest city, the man born Warren Wilhelm in Manhattan 52 years ago has already raised hackles with his many detractors -- and even some of his staunchest supporters.

First, despite campaign pledges of bipartisanship and unity, his 1 January inauguration was filled with vitriol and venom. Calypso singer Harry Belafonte, oddly given a prime speaking role, served up some gruel as he derided the city for its "deeply Dickensian justice system." Newly appointed "public advocate" Letitia James brought a living prop on stage: a 12-year-old girl who, she said, was there highlight child hunger....

I feel guilty, but this train wreck is going to be funny to watch.

Nothing exposes the idiocy of leftist ideas quite like watching them implemented with gusto.

The “mayor” formerly known as Warren Wilhelm. Good luck New York!

Exactly right. Anyone with a brain knows this train is going to end up off the tracks, and who doesn’t like a good trainwreck? In the end, de Blasio will probably end up doing more damage to the liberal progressive cause than a truckload of Sean Hannity bobbleheads could in a decade.

Good. Let them try every looney ProgTard policy they can. We can use New York as a kind of Zoo or Reservation, where the idiots demonstrate just what happens when they actually get power.

It’s starting to remind me of the late 70s, when Liberals had overwhelming majorities after Watergate and they instituted so many policies that were bad, that to this day they have to run from the label and the only way they could get elected was to wear the mask of being “ moderate” . Once again they have let the mask slip, and we can see them full on in all their “Progressive” glory.

To paraphrase Sam Kinison, why don't you give her a sandwich, it's not like you're not standing right next to her.

Sending NYC further backwards. It’s always been a petri dish for progressives (took over the mass transit system per the Communist Manifesto, drove manufacturing out in the 50s and 60s with their plethora of public programs), but something tells me that they’re actually going to plumb the depths of squalor this time.

It will fail miserably, and liberals will say it failed because De Blasio wasn’t far enough to the left.

There are a couple of glaring errors in this piece. Not that I disagree with the author in general about the communist DeBlasio, but Letitia James was elected Public Advocate, not appointed; and the current governor is Andrew “evil eyes” Cuomo, not his father former gov. Mario “faccia brutta” Cuomo. (Curtis Sliwa’s nicknames for them both.)

"Leticia, get back in the mudhole!" Boy, I miss Kinison. Would love to hear his take on current events.

New York's really got it made now. With a mayor like de Blasio and a governor like Cuomo, what could possibly go wrong?

It's the old story line lefties have been using for over one hundred years: the poor are poor because the rich are rich. Of course, the lefties have to promote this myth because that's where the votes are. You can always get the thief vote by promising to rob the producers to give to the parasites/thieves.

his scam will fail like all leftist scams, but it will not end the never-ending supply of leftist "reformers" who promise to make all things right with the "poor and oppressed." You can bet Harry Belafonte and ilk do not live among the poor and oppressed.

That’s an odd combination of given names for an Italian guy, his ancestors must have lived up near the Austrian border ;)

It would have been great to have Kinison run for mayor in NYC. I don't know which party he'd run under, but I can visualize Sam speaking at a public function.

Starting off in a low-key voice smiling at the crowd

"Hey all you poor New Yorkers. You know why you're poor? (voice suddenly changing into Kinison shouting volume) BECAUSE MOST OF YOU ARE STUPID LAZY PARASITES!!!! THAT'S WHY YOU'RE POOR YOU BUNCH OF EFFING WORTHLESS LEECHES!!! (voice change back to calm Kinison.)Thanks folks, and remember to vote for me on polling day. Bye."
