OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma Democratic Party chairman Wallace Collins says former U.S. Rep. Dan Boren is considering running for Tom Coburn's U.S. Senate seat.

Boren served four terms as a U.S. Congressman then went on to work for the Chickasaw Nation as president of their corporate development department.

Boren was the state's only Democratic member of Congress, serving the 2nd District.

Surprise, surprise. Personally I think Boren can take Lankford, even now in the era of 0care. We have a lot of holdouts here in Oklahoma who cling to the notion of "Conservative Democrat" and Dan Boren knows how to play them. I support TW Shannon, who hasn't announced yet so I suppose I'm in the "Draft Shannon" movement.

(Note to the curious, I was OKSooner long before the Borens ever came along...)

The only place Dan is likely to run with any strength is in the old 2d District/Little Dixie/Stipe stomping grounds and that’s not enough votes to carry him to the finish line, IMO. Add to that his “blue-dog Demo” voting record and the DC pols are not coming to his aid, either.

I’ve heard Shannon is eyeing being a Congressman first before becoming a Senator..

Yep!

Obama turned this state from slightly red with a side district of Democrat.. to a hardcore.. broken glass Conservative Republican State.

There ain’t a chance in hell of him winning anything.

You Sure OKSooner, Borens have been around longer than the state has? This is his Grandfather and father.

BOREN, LYLE HAGLER (1909-1992)

One of the youngest men to ever serve as a member of Congress, Lyle Hagler Boren was born near Waxahachie, Texas, May 11, 1909, to Mark and Nannie Boren. He had six brothers, William, John Darrell, Mark Dale, Riley Preston, James Basil, and Henry, and one world-famous sister, Mae Boren Axton, writer of Elvis Presley's first hit song, "Heartbreak Hotel." After farming in southwest Oklahoma, the Borens moved to Choctaw, in 1927 where Lyle graduated from high school. He continued his education at East Central State College (now East Central State University) in Ada and Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University) in Stillwater.

BOREN, DAVID LYLE (1941- )
David Boren

Oklahoma governor and U.S. Senator David L. Boren, the son of former Oklahoma Congressman Lyle H. Boren and Christine McKown Boren, was born in Washington, D.C., April 21, 1941. After attending public schools in Seminole, Oklahoma, and Bethesda, Maryland, he went to Yale University, graduating in 1963. A Rhodes scholar at Oxford University in England, he completed a master's degree in 1965. In 1968 he received his law degree from the University of Oklahoma.

Boren likely will destroy the Republican because he will run as a conservative, and he has name recognition sewed up, bad news for us.

Yep, McAlister is the only venue for him. The South East portion of Oklahoma is where all the outlaws settled after being run out of Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana.

I would like to see Bridenstine or Shannon run. I only would like to see Boren run so we can annihilate him in the general election!! Lankford is NOT my first choice. I am praying, hoping, encouraging others, Tea Party types to jump in. I am ready to start campaigning!!!!

Shannon, at this point, has earned my trust.

So far! He has disagreed with our liberal Governor about several issues.. including Common Core.

He has railed against Common Core.

Boren stepped down because he knew he was going to have a hard time winning again. The 2nd district is very conservative and only getting more conservative every day. I live in the district, Democrats r becoming an endangered species. They barely got someone to run for Governor as a Rat. Boren does have name recognition, but if he thought he could win anything, he would have run for Governor. I would love to see him throw his hat in the ring tho, so we could soundly defeat him!!!

Didn't Boren drop out because polls showed him losing his House seat..he was fairly conservative for a Democrat. I thought it was more like that he'd run as a Republican...

The Democrat label is TOXIC in Oklahoma.

Brad Carson gave up a safe seat ( which Boren won) to run for the Senate in 2004. He was very popular in his district, and the state..polls initially showed him ahead..yet he lost to Coburn because Kerry ran so poorly at the top of the ticket. In a speech after the defeat, Carson said that it's impossible for a Democrat to win a state wide race anymore in Oklahoma..

Tom Cole stands in the way, and he’s not retiring. Speaker Shannon has nothing to lose by going straight for Senator.
