A proposed ballot initiative in Colorado would require couples to take a mandatory pre-marriage education classes, officials said.

The Colorado Marriage Education Act would require first time brides- and grooms-to-be to receive 10 hours of pre-wedding marriage education, the Denver Post reported Monday.

Why get the government involved? Friends could just help out friends:

A man brings his best buddy home for dinner unannounced at 5:30 after work.

His wife begins screaming at him and his friend just sits and listens in.

"My hair & makeup are not done, the house is a mess, the dishes are not done, I'm still in my pajamas and I can't be bothered with cooking tonight! What the hell did you bring him home for?"

"Because he's thinking of getting married."

I had a college student do this for her college essay topic. It seriously is a valid subject. I think the most important question is, “If you marry and have children, then divorce, how will this affect your children and your finances?” Then show them what it’s like.

I have a feeling though, that if ever the male birth control pill is created, A LOT OF PROBLEMS WILL BE SOLVED.

Yes, and if the course reflects the teachings of the Church, that's fine. But when Colorado's idea of marriage is at odds with the Truth, we shouldn't have to be subjected to it, along with Drivers' Ed type tests that we have to give the state approved answer.

Marriage is a right in which the state's interest is limited and secondary.

Let me guess - it is a Democrat making the proposal, who happens to have a relative in the marriage counceling business?...and is considering investing in it?

Coming back from lunch, I remarked to a friend on the elevator:

Doesn't the clergyman performing the marriage ceremony generally conduct such "education."? Apparently, if this becomes law, he or she will have the state looking over his (her) shoulder, or bypassing him (her) completely.
