The White House is trying to dial down the partisan rhetoric on immigration — and it’s asking its allies to do the same.
In meetings with immigration reform advocates, White House officials have said President Barack Obama won’t threaten to take unilateral executive action — at least not yet — and that he wants to give House Republicans some breathing room to try to pass legislation this year, said immigration advocates who have participated in the sessions.

This so-called pResident has already taken unilateral executive action. He has instructed his DoJ and the CPBE and all the other applicable agencies to not detain or deport illegal aliens. How much more unilateral can you get?
He is just words when it comes to placation; he is all ‘action’ when it comes to defying established law in his deranged obsession in destroying this country.
The only reason Ø would dial it down, is if he is about to pen it up.

Yes, we should call our representatives, but everyone should call Boehner and Cantor as well.
The Gang of 8 bill has already passed the Senate so it won't do much good calling your senators unless the House comes up with a bill that could be sent to conference.
No, the strategy is to pass the piecemeal bills and then send them to conference to be matched against the Gang of 8 bill. What comes out of conference will be a comprehensive bill that will resemble the Gang of 8 bill.
The Reps want the increase in guest workers and are willing to trade an amnesty in return. Right now, both parties are trying to define amnesty as a path to citizenship. The Reps will pass a bill to just legalize the status of the 11 to 20 million lawbreakers and say it is not amnesty. In reality, any legislation that allows the lawbreakers to stay and work here is amnesty.
What we are setting the stage for is a "non-citizenship amnesty." The Dems have signaled that they will accept that.
"I don't think this is a good idea because citizenship is important, but I don't think it is a big deal breaker either," Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., a leading congressional advocate for overhauling U.S. immigration law, said in a speech last month. "Right now we have to stop the deportations that are breaking up families. And if we do not get citizenship this year, we will be back next year and the year after that."
Under such an amnesty, the formerly illegal immigrants would receive Employment Authorization Documents (EADs, or work cards), legitimate Social Security accounts, driver’s licenses, expanded (though still limited) access to welfare, travel documents enabling them to leave and freely reenter the country, eligibility for affirmative-action preferences, and much more. The only thing they wouldn’t have is a timetable to apply for citizenship, which means no prospect of eventually being able to vote.
The finding that new immigration was higher in the 10 years prior to 2010 than in the 10 years prior to 2000 is important because the two decades were very different in terms of job growth. There were two significant recessions during the first decade of this century plus the September 11 terrorist attacks. As Figure 3 shows, during the decade there was actually a net loss of about 400,000 jobs according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) survey of businesses. In contrast, the BLS reports a net increase in jobs of about 22 million between 1990 and 2000.
Between the first quarter of 2000 and the first quarter of 2013, the native-born population accounted for two-thirds of overall growth in the working-age population (16 to 65), but none of the net growth in employment among the working-age has gone to natives.
The overall size of the working-age native-born population increased by 16.4 million from 2000 to 2013, yet the number of natives actually holding a job was 1.3 million lower in 2013 than 2000.
The total number of working-age immigrants (legal and illegal) increased 8.8 million and the number working rose 5.3 million between 2000 and 2013.
