CARSON: A physician’s view on the sanctity of life (A Must Read)
The Washington Times ^ | January 22, 2013 | Ben S. Carson

The thought of abortion for convenience is repugnant

Several years ago, I was consulted by a young woman who was 33 weeks pregnant and was on her way to Kansas get an abortion. I informed her of the multiple options available to her outside of abortion and she decided to go through with the pregnancy even though the child had hydrocephalus and required neurosurgical intervention after birth a few weeks later. She kept the baby and loves the beautiful child that has resulted.

A couple of decades ago, I came into the pediatric Intensive Care Unit on morning rounds and was told about a four-year-old girl who had been hit by an ice cream truck, and was comatose and exhibiting little neurological function other than reactive pupils. I tested her pupillary reflexes and both pupils were fixed and dilated. The staff indicated to me that this is something that must have just occurred. I grabbed the bed and with some help, transported her quickly to the operating room for an emergency craniotomy. I was met along the way by a senior neurosurgeon who told me I was wasting my time and that at best, we would end up with someone in a vegetative state.

Nevertheless, we completed the operation and a few days later, her pupils became reactive and she eventually left the hospital. I saw her a few years ago walking through the hospital with her own 4-year-old little girl. She was neurologically fully intact and told me she had become somewhat of a celebrity because of the experience I just related. What do these two stories have in common? They both involve precious lives that could easily have been discarded.

My father was a family practice doctor in a small rural community and delivered scores of babies. He could never understand how any physician knowing the miracle that is life could ever perform abortions. In his later years he once said that God would surely punish those who performed and promoted abortions as well as our country for allowing this to happen.

Your father was a wise man. I’ve thought about that for years and still can’t understand how a physician can perform abortions, the act is against everything they’ve worked hard for to become a healer and against their oath.

Obama doesn’t want his daughters punished with a baby.

The thought of abortion for convenience is repugnant...

But LEGAL!

I'd like to thank the United States Government for protecting me and my kind.

You see, 40 years ago, my odds of making it out of the egg, alive, were very poor; about 80% of us died.

But a lady discovered our plight and wrote a book that addressed our problem,
and, in 1972, a law was ammended protecting us even further. (http://www.fws.gov/midwest/eagle/protect/laws.html)

What I find strange is that the same government passed a law the very next year that allowed for killing
of unborn, and apparently unwanted, humans.  Little ones still nestled safely in their Mother's womb.
Around 25% of them are dying before birth - on average nearly 3,300 - every day of the year.

I hear that by now, somewhere around 55 MILLION of them have perished.
Wouldn't that kind of mess up the humans plans for growth, and welfare, and
retirement?

Strange birds; these Homo Sapiens.  Perhaps they'll come to their senses
before they are ALL dead!

I instinctively ignore thread with a “must read” tag. It is a bit presumptive. However Ben Carson overcame that instinct. Thanks for posting.

I hear you and believe that’s the first time I’ve ever added “must” to a title.

but it's become obvious to me that the American political scene is really beneath people like him.

Yep. Would rather see him outside the public office, where he can actually do some good.

In politics, he'd either become hamstrung, or corrupted by the system.

Ben Carson at Eastman Auditorium. February 25 @ 7:30.

My sister, who is in admin there says that Eastman is sponsoring and the flyer she has seen mentions education and training. So, I am not sure how much political we might expect.

She also mentioned they are considering streaming it because they anticipate a full house.

...the flyer she has seen mentions education and training

Dr Carson's theme is always focused on education of the young as the only way our country will survive.
