March for Life - and ProLife Movement - Now Led by Young Adults

Equal protection under the law for pre-born human beings is headed our way - and from the work of a surprising demographic: adults under 30.

A 28-year old dynamo working on college campuses across the nation, Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life, exemplifies why hers is the "pro-life generation".
Kristan feels deeply the loss of nearly one-third of her age group. “The undeniable fact is that nearly a third of my generation was killed by abortion. We are missing brothers, sisters, cousins, friends, husbands and wives…. But [we’re] determined to set it right. We’ve seen the ultrasounds of our siblings, googled “abortion” and seen the bloody images, and sat with a friend as she cried about her abortion. This youth generation is the most pro-life generation of young people since 1973.”

"This isn't our grandmother's pro-life movement anymore, it belongs to this generation of survivors. To those of us who could have been legally aborted when we were in our mothers' wombs and survived. To those of us who are now being targeted by Planned Parenthood, who has set up shop next to our schools and universities, with 79% being within 5 miles of a college campus."

Yesterday just outside of Washington, DC Students for Life, under Kristan's direction, hosted the largest pro-life training of any group ever assembled. And they were virtually all between the ages of 17-25 years old. 2,500 gathered within hours of today's March for Life to learn how to organize, how to help college co-eds in the midst of a crisis pregnancy, and to see new technology reveal the story of what abortion does - of what abortion really is. Over the past few years, Students for life has trained over 13,000 young people, teaching them how to be effective advocates for the unborn and for their peers.

Said one 21-year-old female participant in Tuesday's training, "You can't see ultrasound clips of preborn babies living and moving inside their moms alongside photos of disassembled babies of the same age and their tiny, bloody bodies without recognizing the injustice of abortion. Dead babies wrapped in newspapers like garbage get your attention. And they make me want to educate myself further so I can help others recognize and help change this gravest of all acts of social injustice."

This young woman reflects the wisdom and growing awareness about the ills of abortion that is characteristic of this generation of college students. An awareness of which older pro-abortion politicians are clueless.

Radical liberals—including elected officials like N.Y. Governor Andrew Cuomo—like to portray pro-lifers as “extreme” and out of touch, proponents of backward thinking and intolerance. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton send the same message, as well as many in the "establishment" of the GOP.

While these aging liberals in both political parties have been out partying with the Planned Parenthood crowd, they have failed to see the sensitivities that the younger generation has toward any form of injustice when they see it.

But the dwindling numbers of older pro-abortion activists understand the problem. Grim and desperate, pro-abortion leaders beg young people to take up their cause. Nancy Keenan of NARAL Pro-Choice resigned last year, bemoaning the “intensity gap” between abortion advocates and abortion foes, in hopes of spurring new energy for the pro-abortion side. Time magazine famously declared that the pro-aborts are “losing,” and they know it.

Consider the facts: Poll after poll on abortion reveals that those younger than 30 view themselves as more "pro-life" than their parents generation; when they asked how they respond to the word "abortion", 54% have a negative response, using words such as "death", "killing", or "sad". And the General Social Survey from 1972 to 2006, shows how every generation since the handing down of Roe and Doe have become more and more pro-life.

Kristan Hawkins and thousands of other prolife young people are tapping into the growing phenomenon and cry for justice among young people and are equipping college students from all walks of life for the battle at record speed. Since she took the helm in 2006, Students for Life has more than tripled its presence on college campuses, with chapters at 700 universities and colleges in 49 out of 50 states in the U.S. Under Kristan’s leadership, Students for Life has spun off several new, targeted initiatives on campuses, including Med Students for Life, Law Students for Life, and Pregnant on Campus (which connects pregnant students to community resources).

So the pro-life generation is on a mission: “Abolish Abortion in Our Lifetime.” Their message unifies a diverse group around a singular purpose, defying the left’s attempts to stereotype them. At this year’s snowy March for Life in Washington, D.C., fresh-faced, pony-tailed homeschoolers will pray and sing alongside trendy hipsters from urban colleges. Pierced, tattoed, and peace-loving vegetarians will march arm in arm with meat-loving ROTC scholarship kids.

They find their bond in the fact that they escaped becoming victims of abortion. And they will not be stopped until every child and every mother are protected. They will work until justice prevails.

I think this is great. Nonetheless, it’s also simple logistics, to some extent. “Young adults” can take off in midweek and go somewhere to protest. “40-ish adults” have a houseful of children and a calendar full of commitments.

They march for over 50 million of those that did not get the chance.

Which is too bad.

I just hope they remember that there are millions that would love to have had a chance to have problems like that.

What’s “pro-life” about keeping your life free of commitments so that you can go protest at any time? That’s “Occupy” reasoning.

Their eyes are open to the reality of abortion where the eyes of my generation were closed. These kids can’t be fooled by slick rhetoric. They are not “reactionaries,” they know the facts and can argue for the lives of their generation. That takes guts and energy. May God bless them and their efforts.

Yes, Thank You, God

I, for one, am grateful for their presence there today. Back in the early days after Roe V. Wade, when my family, friends and parishioners were first beginning to organize local marches for life—before it became national-—we were small in number, but dedicated. Each year we watched the movement grow. Now that I am too old to march I watch EWTN with amazement at the large stream of Pro-lifers today in Washington...and in other cities as well.

I thank God for them and only wish I could be there with them.

May our “Battle of Jericho” with the anti-life forces see the day when their walls come tumbling down for good.

May pro-life movement “occupy” the seat of justice for the unborn.

The distance, weather & age prohibits many from attending.
With them in spirit & in prayer. Awesome to see so many young ones standing up for life. God bless them.

All three of my adult children are pro life, which they should be as I am. But once you send them off to college and into the world, you never know what is going to stick.

My 28 year old daughter who voted for BO twice, told me she is so pro life that if she was raped and became pregnant she would not get an abortion.

Yes, I did speak to her about BO's abortion beliefs. If they are born alive after an abortion, "KILL them, I don't want my daughters punished with a baby."

This is SO important, because Planned Parenthood has been doing this for years.

Science has shown the reality of life in the womb. Perhaps if ultrasound quality had been as it is today, abortion would still be illegal. Pregnant women were told it was just a bunch of cells. But the abortionists KNEW!

We used to go every year but circumstances have kept us away for a few years. I miss it. The young people were invigorating and a real cause for lifting ones spirits. god bless them all for doing the righteous thing, Andrew Cuomo be damned.

Term Abortion Survivor Bashes Barack Obama on Infanticide

by Steven Ertelt

September 16, 2008

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) – A new pro-life group that features a late-term abortion survivor is running a national television advertisement against presidential candidate Barack Obama. The ad takes Obama to task for his votes against a bill to care for survivors of such abortions when he was in the Illinois legislature.

The new group, BornAliveTruth.org is a joint effort between Gianna Jessen, who survived a saline abortion decades ago, and pro-life blogger Jill Stanek.

Stanek is the former Chicago-area nurse who exposed the practice of live-birth abortions, where doctors purposefully cause the premature birth of an unborn child for the sole purpose of letting her die.

Her exposure of the practice led to the Illinois bills Obama opposed and a national law President Bush signed requiring medical centers and personnel to provide such babies with adequate medical care after birth.

“I’m a survivor, as are many others…but if Barack Obama had his way, I wouldn’t be here,” Jessen says in the ad.

“Four times, Barack Obama voted to oppose a law to protect babies left to die after a failed abortion. Senator Obama, please support born alive infant protections. I’m living proof these babies have a right to live,” Jessen adds.
Stanek tells LifeNews.com that Obama’s campaign is not officially responding to the ads.

“We’re hearing from the media Obama’s people are telling them they have no comment on the Gianna ad, that Obama didn’t vote for Born Alive because it would undermine Roe,” she said.

“Even if that were true, which it is not, am I hearing Obama admit he supports infanticide if it would otherwise interfere with legalized abortion?” Stanek added.

The $350,000 ads are airing currently in New Mexico and Ohio, two key tossup states that could determine the outcome of the election between Obama and Senator John McCain, who opposes abortion.

Obama has said he voted against the Born Alive bill in Illinois because it would have undermined Roe v. Wade and the so-called right to abortion, but documents from the Illinois legislature show he voted for an amendment to rectify that issue and still voted against the bill.

The ads are run by the new group, a 527 organization known as BornAliveTruth.org and the ads are financed by Raymond Ruddy, a Mississippi pro-life activist who was a supporter of Mitt Romney during the Republican primaries.

The group says its mission “is to educate the public on the IL Born Alive Infants Protection Act and Senator Obama’s record opposing this act.
