No kidding, no wealth of Christian charity here. The banks (more likely the city) that owns these abandoned wrecks are not going to see a dime of money from these structures and will like they have done in the past have to pay someone to tear them down and haul them away. He is doing them a favor and he’s not living on our dime. One poster mentions his two TV’s in a sarcastic manner. The guy did work in the past so he might well have a TV although it is doubtful that if he did he hasn’t already sold or pawned them. I don’t think he has any electricity in the house anyway. It also takes money to pick up and move, even to North Dakota where the oil boom has made housing outside the realm of someone who has maybe a few dollars to their names. Why don’t the self righteous making these comments on this post float him a loan to move and obtain the expensive bare bones housing he’ll need in the middle of winter in ND before he’ll even be able to possibly get a job. Any of you suggesting the move seen the series Klondike this week? The shacks those miners lived in are barely better than what people are paying $1000 a month for right now in the frozen oil fields. The guy is trying and is surviving at a subsistence level while trying not to take handouts; why put him down?

One of the reasons those fallen down houses are still there is because of the endless lust of the city council.

A guy near me who owns a salvage company took a ride around Detroit one day. He said the old red brick in many of those places is worth a fortune. Unfortunately if you set foot on those properties the city wants you to pay decades in back taxes.

I’ve been looking into the concept of Rocket Stoves.

amazing amount of heat can be generated from very small amounts of wood or anything flammable with almost zero emissions except steam and CO2.

I guess you might be right.. in regards to my comments, I may have been a bit callous and admit I didn’t even read the article. I had a knee jerk reaction.

"endless lust of the city council...so true.

A few weeks ago there was a story here on FR, about a liberal white guy who moved to one of these Detroit neighborhoods. He complained however that the state had taken over the city finances so their elected mayor was hindered from doing what the people wanted....

Well you know what I thought....

Fortunately not all republicans are completely stupid and are beginning to make inroads to the city. Heck the city is the second busiest freight crossing on the continent and we would have to be complete morons to continue leaving it in the hands of the democrats who use it as a DNC cash machine.

This man is not perfect but isn't he doing what most of us say we want to see minority fathers do?

Being a caring father instead of an anonymous sperm doner?

Standing by his own children, taking care of them to the best of his ability?

He is showing some character, resourcefulness, responsibility and love for his children.

I would take a chance on a guy like this.

Witness a prime example of what happens when the Welfare State Ponzi Scheme collapses. There is no money, no infrastructure and any private enterprise that could pull the city out of its collapse has fled or been killed. The people revert to barbarism. Its coming soon to the entire Western world.

go to YouTube.

People doing just that, and running lengths of the chimney pipe through rock and brick and mortar shaped into a thermal mass seating array.

The mass holds the heat for several hours.

Rocket stoves can be made from scrap metal, barrels, cans, bricks, rocks, like this...

or professionally made ones like this for sale on EBay for $2400 plus shipping from England.

I don't think you have driven through Detroit lately. There are over 80,000 empty vandalized homes there already. All one has to do is pick it up, cleaning the environment.

“Just says he sells plasma and steals wood.”

Not sure why it is referred to as “donating” plasma; if he is getting paid he isn’t donating anything.

All the power to him, though; at least he’s trying. If I were in his position I’d head south and never look back; there are limited opportunities in colder climates as Americans (and their employers) flee the cold temperatures. The jobs in North Dakota can’t hold a candle to the growth in TX, FL, etc.

Unlike the jobs in Flori-duh, jobs in North Dakota actually pay money.

They might, but they are a drop in the bucket (in terms of number of jobs) compared to what the rest of the country is losing.

>> By donating his plasma

Is that something only a guy can do?
