U.S. birth rates have been on a steady decline since the onset of the ‘Great recession.’
Newly released data shows births fell 10 per cent from 2008 to 2011, down to well under 4million births after hitting an all-time high of 4.3million births in 2007. A steep decline in teen pregnancies is also believed to be causing the fall.
‘In 2011, there were 3.8 million live births in hospitals, which was 436,000 less or a decrease of 10.3 percent compared to 2008,’ the Agency for Health Research and Quality said in a report.

I must say based on the demographics of the hospital “clients” it’s not Republicans who are reproducing.

Hopefully a closer examination of the numbers reveals that conservatives / Christians continue to have multiple children and the drop-off comes almost exclusively from the leftists, who hate children anyway.
Maybe wishful thinking, but it make sense intuitively.
The same thing happened in the 1930s; one of the reasons for the baby boom after WWII was the pent-up desire to have children, that had been building up throughout the Depression and the war.
This is a quiet, almost unnoticed story, but it is the most important one going on right now. There can be no recovery without a demographic recovery. And a collapse can be caused by a drop in birthrates, and can be quite sudden.

The USA fertility rate has been at less than replacement level since 2007. Currently it is 1.88 while the minimum replacement level is 2.1.

A demographic breakdown by race, and by economic activity of the parents(producers versus consumers) would be interesting.

That reasoning is what is driving the amnesty push; did anyone think we’d just start closing schools and watch our worst-off states de-populate?

When I was younger, older people told me it would never be “the right time” to start a family. I went ahead on faith, and though it is hard, I couldn’t imagine just conceding the future to others (while my taxes subsidize THEIR families).

And this has been the case for years; when my first was born over a dozen years ago, the maternity ward had a couple of black & white babies surrounded by Hispanic babies. They told us Hispanics would overtake blacks by 2010, then after the 2000 census they admitted it had already happened; when they say they’ll pass whites by 2050 take that with a grain of salt. For too long whites have assumed that “other whites” were having the children/shouldering the load; I assure you that is not the case.
Obama’s elections are an indication of where this demographic nightmare is headed; American traditions mean nothing to people who haven’t even been here for two generations.
Yes, our leaders, especially the left, think immigration is a good enough solution. It isn't. Immigration during an era of prosperity is fine, they join us. But during a a severe demographic collapse, they replace us.
Well not to worry we are getting ready to legalize about 20 million immigrants to make up for it. :-)

At this point it is unclear which came first (our low birthrate or the welcome banner for illegals)...
