GOP To Shorten Presidential Nominating Season; Keep NH As ‘First In Nation’

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican leaders overwhelmingly voted Friday to shorten their presidential selection process in an attempt to minimize damage from GOP candidates attacking each other.

“This is a historic day for our party,” RNC chairman Reince Preibus declared.

He said the changes would not allow Republicans to “slice and dice” each other for six months or participate in “a circus of debates.” Republican candidates participated in 27 debates for the 2012 nomination.

Iowa and New Hampshire will retain their coveted spots atop the presidential primary calendar, and South Carolina and Nevada also secured top spots, as they have in the past, as part of a larger plan that could significantly reshape the 2016 presidential election.

How many elections are decided by who gets New Hampshire’s electoral votes?

Lead it off in Texas, Florida, or California.

It will perhaps refrain every egotistical conservative wannabe from pretending to run for President.

By failing to unite around a candidate early, a contender, real contender, conservatives allowed flyweights to disrupt the selection of a strong candidate.

Are you kidding? We conservatives are supposed to embrace debates. We don’t march in lockstep with an anointed candidate.

I think we need 5 ten state primary dates.

On each date 2 southern, 2 northern, 2 eastern, 2 western states, and 2 central states would vote. The states would be chosen by lottery for each election.

When was the last time the Texas Republican primary vote actually mattered? It seems every 4 years its all but decided by the time we vote. I really don’t want Iowa and New Hampshire’s leftovers.

They need to scrap these early blue state primaries and allow some solid red states to vote.

Endless debates moderated by journ-0-lists is a sure loser.

I’d suggest 3 or 4 total moderated by somebody like John Stossel.

The process you deem as debate was viewed as more of a high toned squabble that divided rather than united. The ‘12 campaign was a conservative disaster that ended up nominating Romney

On Free Republic, the process was so heated, all was lost. Personal animosities pretty much fragmented and destroyed any possibility of unity. Traces exist still

Iowa, SC, NH and NV can have their primaries in Feb..

Every other state has to wait until after March 1st...

Florida wants to be in Feb too but if they do the eGOP plans to punish them again...

also the convention might be in June instead of Aug..

again so po lil Willard or other RINOs favored by the eGOP wont get fairly beaten by any Conservatives..

I agree w/ you about leading off w/ big states. No offense to those in Iowa or NH...but at some point, it would be nice if a Western state had some actual input in the nominating process.

Tired of being irrelevant to the process.

Keep getting these candidates I do not want to vote FOR. I’ve had to vote ‘against’ for so long...not sure how I would feel if someone was nominated that I could be excited about voting for.

GOP To Shorten Presidential Nominating Season

Ska-rew that GOP, just get rid of open primaries and let Mark Steyn moderate the debates.

>>>Lead it off in Texas, Florida, or California.

The problem with leading off with a large state, is it may come down to who has the most money as of December 2015. In a state that large, you can't knock on everyone's door and running ads in multiple markets within a state is very expensive. The opportunity for someone not well known to win would be limited.

Lots of folks already talking about 2016.

We’re on the ground in Iowa, preparing the battlefield for uncompromising conservatism.
