The law says “two places”, so the firing pin replacement will not help.

The law also says that a firearm with a “failed” microstamping system is illegal.

That and a clean firing pin should eliminate both stamps.

to form a self-contained "striker assemby", which is inserted into the rear of the slide.

When the "squeeze-cocker" in the grip is fully depressed, the firing pin (in the center, above) extends beyond the bushing, the weapon is cocked -- and will fire when the trigger is pulled.

BUT -- if the squeeze-cocker is depressed just until the firing pin is flush with the back of the bushing, a simple 90-degree turn of the assembly (with your thumb) "unlocks" the assembly, and further depressing of the squeeze-cocker makes the whole firing assembly pop right out into your hand.

At that point, the weapon is totally inert and non-fireable. (P7 owners need no stupid gun locks!)

With practice, removing the "striker assembly" (firing mechanism) and dropping it into your shirt pocket takes a whole four seconds.

Replacing the assembly (with the same one -- or another...) [thus returing the P7 to full functionality] takes about the same time and effort.

Of course the HK P7s are no longer in production -- so the laws as written don't apply. (And the surviving firearms [and parts] are now hellaciously expensive!)

OTOH, I understand that Glocks use a similar "striker assembly"...

Those who wrote the laws were aware of the ease of firing pin replacement, that’s why all of these laws and bills require the stamp appear in 2 places. Typically the primer and breech face. Occasionally the primer and chamber.

Also keep in mind that for microstamping to work, a firearm registry is pretty much a requirement.

The registry is one of the main goals.

Or if you were really clever, get a second firing pin file it down use it for the crime and then replace the unaltered pin in your weapon. Not a bad idea to have a second barrel also.

The stupid politicians and movie actors talk about microstamping the "shell casings," which do not exist in ammunition parlance. If you asked them what a primer is, they'd scream: "racist"!

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who has never reloaded ammunition should refrain from making public comments on the topic of ammunition.

Microstamping is what should be called baloney. A few strokes with a file and it’s gone. Now what kind of a criminal is going to use a gun in a crime with a signature on it when it can be erased that easily? The only people who would have the microstamping intact are the law-abiding. Those are the people the law is intended to hurt. What they have actually done is to create a black market for stolen guns and straw purchases from other states. The end result of this law will be bad for California.

This is the single biggest gun grabber victory in history. They wiped out a whole class of firearms without even having to ban them.

Their next holy grail is the so-called assault rifles. Look for CA to require microstamping for all semi-auto rifles next. Other blue states will follow suit.

It may only be California today but I assure you this will soon extend well beyond their borders and be implemented nation wide.

Remember where the cry for non-lead bullets started? Well that too will very soon be implemented across our entire nation as well. Ammunition may not contain lead and yes there are alternate materials as replacement. The gubmint may not be able to take all our guns but without ammunition, what good is the gun.
