In what may have been borrowed from the Israeli playbook, Russia has made it abundantly clear to wannabe martyrs for Mohammed — if you kill yourself in a terrorist attack, your family will face the consequences ... and pay dearly.
In a story that has slowly become known to the West since the bloody Islamic Jihadist attack on a school in Beslan, Russia in 2004, and most recently in Volgograd (the former Stalingrad of World War II fame), the Moscow authorities are cracking down in a fashion that have more than a few American and European Beta Males squirming in their jammies.
Sources ranging from the Wall Street-friendly Business Insider to the very left-of-center Think Progress to the US Government-ran Stars and Stripes have all noted a strategy that may not suit all palates, especially those of well-fed and even more protected self-proclaimed civil libertarians.
Described by some as "heavy-handed," authorities from the Russian Federation have ordered that no protests or rallies that coincide with the Olympics will be tolerated.
Period. Full stop. No further discussion.

The Soviets pretty much always practiced the
punishment of families. The only ones not
punished, slipped through the cracks and
were punished later.
Its a appalling concept considered from the Christian/Western point of view where we are all individual souls equal in the eyes of a logical and reasonable God, and the resulting political view that we are therefore of equal basic rights and independent action.
But we are not dealing with Christians or Westerners here, and they do not organize themselves according to this belief.
Should be a good deterrent, though I’m not big on the concept of communal responsibility (or communal anything for that matter). One good aspect, if you’re in the family and you know you have a fanatic who’d do the deed anyway, and the consequences to the family be damned, it gives the family an incentive to prevent the terror attack before it can occur.
ALL terrorists families should bear responsibility.

Good point. Half the time, the family probably shares the convictions of the bad actor, and are in fact cheering him on, just not as fanatical as the guy, and if that’s the case they’re not really “innocent”.

Obviously the families of avowed terrorists know what their family member is up to and support it. Now they will be motivated to stop tacit or other support and may be motivated to tell the gov about him/her.
Think of the Pali and other family members being overjoyed that their sons/other family members had martyred themselves and killed others. Party time.

I don’t have a problem with this at all... The terrorist is a product of his/her upbringing and his/her associations.
Terrorism is an act of war except on a smaller scale. If a country attacks you, you hold the population of said country responsible. If a terrorist attacks you, you hold “his/her” population responsible...
You are what you tolerate.

No he does not. Putin recognizes that the Islamic world is at total war with the non-Islamic world. Unfortunately, the politically correct, cowardly leadership of America and Western Europe either don’t recognize this or are afraid to acknowledge it.
