Gay Activists Determined to Overthrow Florida's Traditional Marriage Laws

Gay activists with the group Equality Florida announced Tuesday they are filing a federal lawsuit to attempt to overturn Florida's Marriage Protection Amendment.

In 2008, 62 percent of Floridians voted to pass the historical amendment supported by the Florida Family Policy Council (FFPC).

"Gay activists cannot win in the marketplace of ideas, so they have resorted to trying to find renegade courts who have little respect for the rule of law to create social change that would never happen through the people or their elected representatives," John Stemberger, FFPC president and general counsel, said in a statement.

"Today's lawsuit is nothing more than a publicity stunt," he continued. "Filed in Miami, it represents 'forum shopping' in the most liberal legal venue in the state." However, we are confident that Florida's attorney general, Pam Bondi, will provide a vigorous defense of Florida's long-held law and, in doing so, will expose the radical views and overreaching legal positions set forth in today's lawsuit.

My expectation is that they will prevail in overturning the amendment, given other recent rulings in other states.

The fact that we have an airhead for an AG won’t help.

It is so unfair that these homo activists always run to the most liberal court in the state. With that a Miami judge will dictate what happens in the Florida panhandle.

Time to abandon civil marriage. The feral government punishes marriage anyway. Get married in the Church, but don’t bother with the legalities.

Some of these courts need to be abolished and burned.

“Marriage” has always been between man and woman. How can homosexuals claim the law is not being applied equally? Have men & women been prevented from marrying?

What homosexuals want is to change the meaning of a word and then claim that they are being excluded from application of this new definition.

If the meaning of words can be altered then there are no limits.

Genesis 19 explains it all.

They will surround your house and break down the door to force themselves on you to get what they demand. Nothing will deter them.

There is nothing new under the sun.

Homosexuality is sexual perversion and a mental issue.

That's the coward's way out.

There's a reason why traditional marriage has been cherished and protected for millennia until just five years ago.

Homosexuals cannot procreate. Period. We need children to be nurtured and brought into society under a strong two-parent family - MOM AND DAD. Not 2 Moms or 2 Dads, or a multitude of each.

Homosexual Marriage is simply the destruction of traditional marriage.

Why does government get to define marriage? Government is the greediest, most corrupt and murderous force on Earth.

They shouldn't have anything to do with marriage.

Make it so that the only people filing for the government paperwork are perverts.

Why does government get to define marriage?

Because OUR government was founded on Christian principles. It's based not only on those principles, but on historical and natural law principles as well.

Again, homos can't re-produce. That is the crux of the argument regarding marriage. Without marriage and children, our population would age rapidly with no replacements.

Also, even if government didn't define marriage, homos would still sue to be allowed to marry in churches and by people of faith. It's never enough with this people. Nobody is stopping them from being with the person(s) they "love."

It's not OUR government anymore, in case you hadn't noticed.

Abolish no fault divorce. The notion that marriage is truly a lifelong commitment will cause gays to run like rats, and it will strengthen traditional marriage for the rest of us at the same time.

Unfortunately, the same-sex marriage advocates will likely find a sympathetic liberal judge to entertain their attempt to overthrow Florida law that defines marriage the way every society has defined it for millenniums: as between a man and a woman. Using twisted interpretations of the Constitution to overthrow the people’s will is now SOP for leftists and especially the homosexual lobby. Sadly, they often win.

Homosexuality is sexual perversion and a mental issue.

It's a choice!
The "why" of it is unfathomable. Yes, it's a perversion and a mental issue, based on CHOICE.

... so they have resorted to trying to find renegade courts who have little respect for the rule of law to create social change that would never happen through the people or their elected representatives," John Stemberger, FFPC president and general counsel, said in a statement.

As mentioned in related threads, the reason that renegade courts get away with protecting so-called gay rights is the following imo. Sadly, citizens are not being taught that the Constitution's silence about things like marriage means that marriage is uniquely a state power issue. Citizens are also not being taught that the states have never amended the Constitution to expressly protect gay rights.

The consequence of widespread citizen ignorance concerning 10th Amendment-protected marriage and constitutionally unprotected gay rights is this. All that pro-gay activist judges have to say is that gay marriage is constitutional and nobody, evidently including law-school indoctrinated attornies, knows how to challenge major constitutional problems with such decisions.

It remains that the states are actually free to make laws which discriminate against things like gay marriage, as long as such laws don't also unreasonably abridge constitutionally enumerated rights.

Totally agree. It is a learned choice.
