AB, thank you for doing this thread, it means a lot to me.
I shall be singing at 10 am mass this week. I decided to give up church on Saturdays cause people were starting to think I was a 7 day adventist. Or something..
Thus I am posting this personal story early in the thread but if there are people in the world that can understand my dismay, it’s the folks on FreeRepublic.
And for all my bravado I find myself crying for having made so many people, people I like, mad at me.
Before, in honor of the thread topic, let me say that as I type it’s early in the Sunday morn but I cannot wait to see McConnell and all the elected Republican guys get on the Sunday talk shows and defend the Tea Party from those awful remarks by Schumer, Cuomo and that other liberal turd. All week I been looking forward to this because I know if a Senator Cruz, for example, had given a speech lambasting the Wall Street gang, or the NAACP or any voting group, I know the Dems would be out excoriating and defending their voting base. Thus I am eager to see OUR guys out and about and defending us.
Okay, here’s my story.
It’s that old excessive dog barking law and wait till you hear this.
As background, the Delaware Sussex county council had been trying to enact this ordinance since fall of last year. I am sick of laws and resented this law as I see it as something to be abused, specifically by my godawful neighbor. I showed up at the meeting and asked them to please do not sully this greatest place on earth to live by encumbering us with endless laws.
Over several meetings the matter was discussed but I stayed on it, going to county council meetings, GLARING at those who don’t seem to realize that MY RIGHTS COME FROM GOD….not them.
Anyway, I saw it on the county council agenda this week, kind of snuck in like. So I went.
GET THIS…..GET THIS…..the council had asked the county lawyer to investigate and see if another dog barking law or noise ordinance was already on the books in the Delaware state code.
So the lawyer…..who told me to call him “Everett”….heh, yeah, same guy...gave his report. And it does seem that there already exists a state law on excessive noise, with some very plain rules concerning dog barking. It defines dog barking as 10 mins. Or more, non-stop, over half hour span with majority barking, not to count if dog is teased or defending its territory.
Pretty specific and pretty fair as I saw it.
But the only Democrat on the Sussex county council SHE WANTED A LAW DAMMIT SHE WANTED TO PASS A LAW IT’S UNFAIR SHE WANTED A LAW!
So she STILL, despite the existance of a state law, proposed a new county ordinance anyway, hand to God.
Well I got out of that bench and began, real ostentatiously, taking pictures of these would-be members of the RULING CLASS and motioned for them to speak into my microphone.
GET THIS….ONE REPUBLICAN ALSO VOTED FOR ANOTHER LAW THOUGH ONE EXISTED!
I was livid and made a scene, yes I did.
Well the other three Republicans voted AGAINST the ordinance because, duh….ONE ALREADY EXISTS!
The LAST thing we need these people doing is enacting layers upon layers of laws that WE have to live with.
Guys, it’s been quite a week, you should smile if not cry. This dog barking law has been on TV and the newspapers and yours truly has been besieged….BESIEGED!
Phone calls….ALL OF THEM CONGRATULATING ME…..because guess what guys….PEOPLE DON’T FEEL LIKE WE NEED MORE LAWS, GOT TO HAVE MORE LAWS, NEVER MIND A LAW ALREADY EXISTS DO NOT MAKE ANOTHER ONE!
Mind you that Delaware legislators have been besieged by proposed gun laws, this anti-gun thing financed by Bloo0mberg and pushed by Beau Biden. A bunch of civic activists managed to defeat this….dear Lord one law wanted to take away our guns if we are “crazy”…..after passage no doubt we’d all be declared crazy. Beau Biden would declare us all crazy.
So I am sensitive to laws, the laws, no gun if you have blue eyes, no gun if you are hoarder (this one is real, hand to God), no gun if you are black sheep of your family.
LAWS, LAWS, GOT TO HAVE MORE LAWS.
So yeah….yours truly is a bit famous round these parts. I had to tell my mother-in-law not to panic if she hears my name, told her what I been up to. Been interviewed on two radio stations, me, a SELF-APPOINTED CITIZEN OMBUDSMAN-SACO-...that’s my title.
So I contacted my local GOP and asked that the councilman voting to enslave, the Republican one, should be censured for the senseless action of voting, knowingly….please remember that my friend the county lawyer, right there, READ THE DELAWARE LAW.
The Chair of the Sussex county council is a real friend…..he was the Sussex county campaign chair for Christine O’Donnell, he’s no creep.
Oh my, we had Facebook and email arguments. Of course he doesn’t want to sanction that council guy and silly me thinks nothing could be worse than an elected party member voting for new laws when one already exists.
His name, John Rieley, does not want to take any action and, ahem, he and I disagree.
All this weekend I been fighting with the entire executive board of Sussex county. Some really harsh words being exchanged. At one point I reminded John about his former position as campaign manager for Christine O’Donnell. I asked him what happened to him, what made him so lame.
Well you know, sometimes I get mad and my keyboard runs away with itself.
This morning he sent me an email telling me that no matter what he will always consider me a friend. This gave me such relief because with all my bravado, I really like John and didn’t want to make HIM the enemy.

I read your column regularly and did see your first mention of this on the blog earlier this week. I’m sure we will be taking a stand, but of course, I cannot speak for all of leadership without consulting them. Rest assured, we will be discussing this in the next day or so. One of us will respond to you with our plan of action as soon as a decision is made.

Two Sussex County Council people vote for ANOTHER dog barking law even though their own lawyer said one already exists in the Delaware state code. George Cole and Joan Deaver think we CAN’T HAVE TOO MANY LAWS...going for Federal dog barking law, IRS to enforce.

OK, I read this post and you’re blog. Even read your reader’s comments. So were you drunk when you wrote it? ;-) J/K!!!
Seriously, that position (no NEW Laws when laws currently exist) is pure brilliance. It is almost impossible to argue against. Even in the comments one of your readers pointed out that if a current law isn’t working that it needs to be fixed, not another law to plaster over the bad one.
I believe it was Lincoln who said the best way to get rid of a bad law was to strictly enforce it. You don’t make another. Think Obamacare.
You Go Girl!!! Great job! It’s about time someone tells these gov’t critters to quit passing extra laws (especially those that are 1000s of pages and that “you need to read it to find out what’s in it” (TM-Pelosi).

As I read it, I thought about the current amnesty mess. Seems there are parallels. We have lots of immigration laws on the book but they are not being enforced. It’s a circus.
If the powers that be would enforce what’s already there, we wouldn’t have the mess.
