ESPN has a set for the Super Bowl coverage at Herald Square in New York City. It’s a climate-controlled, glass-enclosed set—all the more to better protect against the cold, especially after ESPN had to scrap most of the plans for their outdoor set in Fort Worth, TX a few years ago when the ice storm and subsequent freezing temperatures caused a lot of problems.

How appropriate that obama is giving a speech about global warming (oops I mean climate change) on one of the coldest days in history.

I'm sure he's just trying to change the subject from obamacare (oops I mean the ACA).

One thing's for sure; he'll say nathing about foreign policy since putin passed him over to the iranians for sloppy seconds; or were the egyptians 2nd and assad third?, which would make the iranians fifth?

Did I include the Lybians? I can't keep up.

All this caterwauling over cold weather. It's late January and mid-winter in North America. It's supposed to be cold.

All my life, New England winters have featured cold blasts that included snow and sub-zero days. Since when has this been deemed newsworthy? Not just newsworthy but actually a top news story?

Stay safe. I had propane in my Virginia house. Would never go that route again. It is very expensive.

That “near record” arrow goes right over my house. :)

It was colder during the storms of January 6-8th, and windier, too.

We hit 50 yesterday, 14 for today’s high with sub-zero wind chills. And I still remember worse winters when I was a kid.

In Maryland up and down temperatures are normal.

It can be warm ~ 50s or 60s till late January, or very cold on October lower 30s in day.

My favorite was early March 1990 it reached 90 degrees one day, 80s the next and slowly down. Within a few weeks it was cold with light snow,

Houston’s high yesterday was 71, one of the most perfect beautiful days ever. The storm blows in later today and tomorrow is supposed to be cold and maybe some frozen stuff. But the frigid weather never last long for us.

I remember once it was -17 degrees in February and then not even six weeks later (later March), we saw a temperature of 61 degrees! It’s crazy, how rapidly the weather can change around here.

there will be local ground blizzards.

Had one of them this morning. Couldn't see five feet in any direction. Local traffic just stopped in my neck of the woods of Western PA.

Recently, I was on a trip with some liberal relatives. Their return flight to the DC area was delayed by the 6"-10" of snow that day. When their son said "Tell THAT to global warming", his father said, "You see, son, that just shows that you don't understand global warming."

I practically bit the tip of my tongue off in the interest of family harmony...

A lot of hype.

The coldest that it will get in Connecticut this week is 9F.

Its the middle of winter. It gets cold.

Whatever it is, it is totally consistent with every prediction they have made. And if you question them, you hate science.

Exactly. Highs in the teens for January in the Northeast are not exactly newsworthy.

Dunno if we’re in the same area, but yesterday was in the mid-40’s, today in the single digits, constantly warming until Wednesday back in the 40’s...

We call this “Winter” in Ks. How about you?
