Cognitive Bias Modification

The Republicans hire Political Scientists who can tell us how many people will vote Republican in one area. The Democrats hire Sociologists who show them how to get people to vote for Democrat candidates. You tell me which one is more important. And no, I’m not a sociologist.

Every year at almost every company I worked at the tippy top and a few cronies went off to a golfing retreat under the guise of performing corporate governance. The few times I saw the minutes of these “retreats” I was under impressed. They are an excuse to run up large bills paid by others in luxury most of us can’t afford and most of them will not indulge in with their own money. I wouldn’t worry. I asked a fellow employee once what changes he’d expect from such a retreat. He said, “Were their any changes last year?” (No.) “Well, then, same-o, same-o.”

The only such thing I ever went to was when I worked for a mid-sized equipment manufacturer with a conservative management. It was the annual sales meeting. Always held at a golf resort but only one half day was reserved for a round of golf or anything else you wanted to do. The rest was work. Real work.

Accommodations were 2 to a room unless you wanted to pay the difference. It extended through the weekend so not too many work days were missed. By the end you were drained and happy to get back to the regular routine.

“The rest was work. Real work.”

You said they were conservative, that may be a difference. Also, you, like me, probably were a worker bee. I was sent to a one week conference at a nice facility but it was all work. I also was sent to a two week class, but it was also work. What the politicos and the top management do is more like a paid vacation with all the trimmings. My former bosses talked of non-stop golfing with a few rah-rah sessions run by expensive consultants. (For example, they’d come up with a mission statement. It was generally a 50+ word sentence that threw in motherhood, apply pie and the kitchen sink.)

It’s up to US. It is our DUTY and RESPONSIBILITY.

Amen...I have been promoting term limits and knowing that is virtually impossible have been pushing a NO INCUMBENTS MOVE.

Said it before and will repeat...

The ONLY problem we have in this country is that we ALL agree that as a whole, all pols are crooks and should be in jail.

THEN-—

But “”MINE”” is great, it is the rest of them.

So, with this attitude the same dead wood goes back till they (for the most part) decide to resign...

If the party doesn’t at least put up some opposition in the primary, then vote the other side. We may be in for a rough couple of years but one or two elections and they will probably get the message.

At least can’t be any worse than the charade we play today, spendings 10s of millions to get a 2 yr 175,000 buck pa job.

The way it is set up now, they get elected then have to go campaigning and raising money the day they get sworn in.

That Gov in NC (Perdue??) had said a couple of years ago maybe we should suspend the Congressional election for a couple of years.

She may be on to something PROVIDED she means if no election for 4 years they can sit down and get some serious work done. I don’t think that is what SHE had in mind though.

These meetings were run by the CEO, president and the upper management. Yes, all conservative. Attendees included the entire sales force plus product managers. I was in the last category.

The company was one of the few in the industry that would grow market share when times were tough. It acquired when others were being acquired.

On off years when sales were low (cyclical business), the meetings would be held at the corporate office. Attendees that had to travel got to stay at one of the more modest hotels around (cheap rates).

I’ve mostly worked for defense contractors. The more money they spent the more they got to charge. A director once said to me, “Our business model is to spend as much as we can because profit is a percentage of costs.”

That was in the days of cost-plus contracts. They’d buy (literally) aircraft grade 24 foot boards to build 8 foot temporary walls.

Recently, the military is making companies design and present their products with no input into them. Imagine building a tank on your own nickel only to be told, well, we don’t really want heavy armor.

Under the current “leadership” in the House, I would be more in favor of just locking them down for the duration. Seal off the doors and windows, then ensure that no one or nothing gets in or out until WE get our country back.

How is this different from any other day? The GOP is in a constant state of retreat.

Less of a retreat, more of a rout.
