The homeowner woke up to see a man burglarizing his pickup truck that was parked in his front yard. He approached the man with a rifle, intending to hold him until law enforcement could arrive, but the man fled the scene, according to the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office.

The homeowner fired at the man and then noticed a truck parked in the dark near the roadway, which he believed belonged to the man so he got in the truck and took the keys out of the ignition to prevent him from leaving the scene. The man confronted the homeowner and disarmed him, assaulting him with the rifle, authorities said.

The homeowners son saw the man raising the rifle and, fearing the man was about to shoot his father, shot the suspect, killing him instantly.

The case will go to a grand jury, as do all homicides in Texas. It seems to work, because it take some discretion away from prosecutors.

As my Daddy would say: “Pay that boy bounty and buy him more bullets.”

VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
An East Texas burglary suspect is dead after homeowners found him rooting
around on their property in the middle of the night. The property owner was armed and
confronted the burglar, who then fought back. However, that fight didn't last long thanks to
the homeowner's watchful son who was standing 40 yards away.

"I meant to shoot one time and that was it. He was going to kill my dad," explains the son.

Somehow I think a grand jury in Van Zandt County will return a no-bill for these citizens. Be a different story over in that open sewer known as Travis County

You gotta be crazy to do this in Texas. If my car broke down, I wouldn’t dare knock on someone’s door in the middle of the night. Hell, I’d just sleep in my car and pray someone stops to help ROFL.

Now that is gun control. 40 yards is agood distance in the dark.

We should be awarding shooting medals.

No one like to see someone killed but if there is going to be a killing it should be the bad guy!

Or even in the cesspool Dallas County has become, he would probably be no-billed. This is a prime example of why Texans voted to implement the Castle Doctrine. The things purchased with your hard-earned money and your life should be safe on your own property. The criminal element needs to again fear law-abiding citizens, not the other way around.

I've got to let the beard and hair grow some more first, but then I'm ready. I wonder if they provide the live targets or if we have to bring our own.

My neighbor and I are both shooters. We live out in the countryside and can shoot on our property. My dog escaped one night and I knew he went to my neighbors house to see my neighbors dog. This was two in the morning.

I sure as hell would not go over to his house in the middle of the night. The next day I went and got my dog. I told him I knew where the dog was but was afraid to go get him in the middle of the night. He laughed and said he was afraid to bring him back in the middle of the night.

This is Texas and we like it this way.
