Top Republicans to present immigration plan

House GOP leaders are expected to push for legalizing millions of undocumented workers

The controversial proposal is reigniting another identity crisis over the future of the GOP. Some on the right have begun to mobilize against House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, with hopes of quashing plans to introduce a series of bills.

Leaders of the House of Representatives are expected to release the principles at their annual retreat later this week in Cambridge, Md. Those principles are likely to include tighter border security, an expanded guest-worker program, additional visas for high-tech workers and legalization for many of those people in the country illegally.

It’s the latest signal that the House leadership is taking immigration seriously. Boehner also hired a new aide last month, Rebecca Tallent, who’s considered a proponent of legalization. She was the director of immigration policy at the nonprofit Bipartisan Policy Center and also worked for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., one of the proponents of a comprehensive immigration proposal that included a path to citizenship.

It already has. We have corporate interests pressuring the GOP to increase legal immigration to 33 million over the next decade (almost three times higher than the largest decade of immigration in our history) and doubling the size of the guest worker programs to 1.4 million a year.

The corporate paymasters don't care what happens to the country or the GOP, which will commit political suicide if it goes along with this program.

We have corruption in our government when it comes to enforcing our existing immigration laws. Obama has already passed a backdoor amnesty for the Dreamers. DOJ has sued states like AZ and AL for enforcing federal immigration laws while giving a pass to sanctuary states, counties, and cities who refuse to cooperate with the federal government on the enforcement of our immigration laws. Our border remain porous despite the threats of terrorism, drugs, and an invasion of our sovereignty. We have no mechanism to track and deport visa overstays, which account for 40% of the 11 to 20 million illegal aliens in the country. We have ICE agents filing suit against the USG for not allowing them to do their jobs. Why? Because the Dems benefit politically as do other special interest groups.

Other areas like the enforcement of our drug laws (now the feds cast a blind eye to states that permit the legal sale of marijuana) the failure to enforce our voting rights laws like what the New Black Panthers did in Philadelphia, the abuses of the IRS without any accountability, etc. are just a few examples of how our government has been corrupted.

So, you think enforcement of any new laws will be any less corrupt? We’ll get 300,000 new drug dealers and terrorists, while honest people desiring to immigrate to start new lives will not have the resources to bribe our immigration enforcers. And we’ll have a lot more illegals than we have now.

We don't need new laws to enforce. We just need to enforce the ones we have. We used to bring in 250,000 to 300,000 legal immigrants year for over 40 years(1924-65), but after the 1965 Immigration Act, we have repeatedly raised the levels of immigration as well as changing the source of immigrants from Europe to the developing world.

I think your concern should be about the welfare of your fellow citizens rather than those wanting to come here, legally or illegally.

My concern is that you seem to think that the government that gave us obamacare will ever, ever, do this right, even as you see it should be done. “I’m from the government, I’m here to help.

My fellow citizens elected Bill Clinton, Barack Hussein Obama, and voted in large numbers for Al Gore. Most of them can go to hell for all I care.

If we don’t do it (immigration) the country is finished. It may already be too late. Demography is destiny.

I think it’s already too late. It was too late in 2000 when over half the voters voted for Algore because he promised to steal from the other half. The free lunch is alive and well in America.

Our cities have spent themselves into bankruptcy, and couldn’t afford adequate law enforcement, even if they had a mind to do so, and as a result of that, and social pathologies brought on by the free lunch beliefs, civil order is almost nonexistent in the cities, and it’s expanding beyond the city limits.

Many states are in the same situation, and the Federal government is getting there. If the government debt keeps increasing, we could have the biggest, fanciest military in history, and not be able to afford to field it to defend us from enemies, foreign and domestic.

And every year we bring in 1.2 million new customers looking for that free lunch.

Take a look at healthcare and see who is using Medicaid or have no health insurance.

And who do you think makes up the majority of the population of most large US cities and who runs them? Answer: Minorities are the majority in our largest cities and liberal Democrats run them.

Many states are in the same situation, and the Federal government is getting there. If the government debt keeps increasing, we could have the biggest, fanciest military in history, and not be able to afford to field it to defend us from enemies, foreign and domestic.

The federal government is in far worse shape. In addition to the $17 trillion debt and growing, we have unfunded liabilities of approximately $100 trillion in the form of the entitlement programs. The advantage the federal government has is that it can print money and loan money to itself including setting interest rates.

It appears we need more Asian immigrants, we need to limit the number of Blacks and Hispanics immigrating from Detroit. and those darned American Indians. We need to send them home, too.

You really should get a breakdown between Puerto Ricans and other Hispanics. Puerto Ricans are all American citizens by right of birth.

Poverty Among Immigrants and Natives. The first column in Table 10 reports the poverty rate for immigrants by country and the second column shows the figures when their U.S.-born children under age 18 are included. Based on the March 2011 CPS, 19.9 percent of immigrants compared to 13.5 percent of natives lived in poverty in 2010. (Poverty statistics from the CPS are based on annual income in the calendar year prior to the survey and reflect family size). The higher incidence of poverty among immigrants as a group has increased the overall size of the population living in poverty. In 2010, 16.5 percent of those in poverty in the country were immigrants.

Table 20 shows that children from native households are significantly more likely to be in private school than children from immigrant households. As a result, children from immigrant households are a slightly larger share of public school students than they are of the school-age population. The 10.5 million children from immigrant households in public schools are 21.5 percent of all students in public schools.

You really should get a breakdown between Puerto Ricans and other Hispanics. Puerto Ricans are all American citizens by right of birth.

Most Hispanics are native born. The children of illegal aliens are native born thru birthright citizenship. Puerto Ricans are not considered immigrants any more than those who come here from Guam, the Virgin Islands, or other US territories.
