Businesses Fail When They Do What's Politically Correct Instead of What Customers Want

RUSH: Hi. How are you? Welcome back. Great to have you. It's the EIB Network and Rush Limbaugh. "McDonald's Fighting to be 'Relevant' to Customers, CEO Concedes." You know, I've got some thoughts about this. "After outperforming rivals for years, McDonald's Corp. is facing a shift in eating habits toward foods people feel are fresher or healthier. The company has added options such as chicken wraps and breakfast sandwiches made with egg whites to keep up with the trend. But it's received a 'muted response.'"

It isn't working. Healthier foods received a muted response. I mean, who could have guessed that? Remember Burger King in Berkeley? Yeah, Burger King in Berkeley, the leftists on the city council said, "You can't serve beef. That stuff kills people. You gotta serve veggie burgers." So they put veggie burgers on the menu and they promptly practically went out of business 'cause that's not why people go to Burger King.

So you have McDonald's here trying harder and harder to do what the left says is nutritionally correct more than what's really important. If you're in the restaurant business, what's the most important thing? Well, how the food tastes. If the food doesn't taste any good, you are in trouble. Are you not? The worst thing that could be said about your restaurant, "The food in there isn't any good." What do you think is said about nutritionally healthy food? By definition it doesn't taste good. I don't know. It's not my business. I told you I admittedly don't know anything about that business.

But insurance companies, look at them. They're trying to do what is government correct more than what is customer correct. Obamacare policies don't sell because they're unaffordable due to unnecessary coverages. Car companies are trying to do what's environmentally correct instead of building cars that people want. It's all out of whack because leftists have taken over the regulatory process and the public guilt process. You got all these people scared to death, "You gotta make sure it's environmental healthy and green," and all this stuff. It's no wonder this stuff is happening to these companies. I don't know. It just ticks me off, folks.

Because McDonald’s just isn’t the first place the soy milk and foo-foo-food crowd would think to go . . .

James Coney Island has been selling hot dogs in Houston for 90 years.

They recently began rebranding as “JCI Grill” and offering garden salads and grilled menu items as well as new costly foodie hot dogs.

Apparently after 90 years, people want something “different” and the name “Coney Island” somehow seems “quaint” or “unhealthy”.

Just like the way Kentucky Fried Chicken changed their name to KFC, as if anything fried should be declared controlled substances.

Competency Transfer Bias is very strong in Liberals. They believe that since they showed a competency in being elected, that they therefore have a competency in everything. That is Fairy Tale Management. You can’t just wave a magic wand, or in this case, government directive, and suddenly, everything will be just fine. The first thing to realize is that the competency to get elected only proves that you are a competent campaigner. It doesn’t prove that your an expert on nutrition. It doesn’t prove that you are a competent Executive, either.

To quote Dennis Miller when talking about the ‘healthy foods’ crowd: “We know that Burger King is s****! That’s why we like it!” ;-)

As Jay Leno said at the time, it's not that they were trying to distance themselves from 'fried', it's that they were trying to get away from the word 'chicken'.

I'm going to miss Jay Leno...

i remember people complaining about the paper they wrapped the stuff in, so MacD’s went with Styrofoam...then there was all this complaining about them filling up the landfills, so they’re back with paper wrappings.

they didn’t like the grease they put their fries in. so MacD’s got another kind of grease. now the fries don’t taste as good.

last time i went to macD’s, the food was lousy. terrible.

BK stuff tastes like sawdust, and wendy’s changed their fries, rendering them from better than most, to nasty.

dairy queen has much better tasting burgers & fries.

Blame the Hindus and the Muslims for what happened to McDonald’s fries: they went from frying in 100% beef tallow (the “classic” fries) to vegetable shortening and beef tallow, and then someone got butthurt about that and sued, and now it’s 100% vegetable shortening. . .

If the market wants “health food” the market will reward providers of health food with millions of little green snowflakes from heaven. That’s how markets work. Government and pressure groups can only distort the market and thus destroy businesses.

Liberals don’t care, they say they hate business.

I remember when McDonald’s came up with “McLean” burgers. My wife at the time said, “Great idea!” Then she ate one. Nope. They stopped making them within a month. That is how a market is supposed to work. Mickey Dee’s know how to operate a market, so they should be left alone. If they are producing what people really want, as opposed to what they are told people want, they will succeed. If they don’t, then even McDonald’s can falter and die.

They first tried “Kitchen Fresh Chicken”. I guess people didn’t want them to kill the chickens in the kitchen.

AFIparadise, James Coney Island people are idiots.

I rarely go to fast food places. Way too many of them are owned by people who don’t use toilette paper. They’ll sell stuff until they run out. Not until it goes bad.

five guys and jakes are similar in that you can build your hamberger the way you want it. jakes has better fries, and you can put cheese on them, but five guys has A1 sauce...adn free peanuts

We know this to be true and yet Subway, whom I used to like, has aligned themselves with Moosechelle in the last week. Nice market research on that one boys.

“My opinion is that the media is the main
supporter of healthy eating. We’re certainly
not hearing it from our customers”
— Andrew Puzder, CEO of Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr.

McDonalds would not be able to make hamburgers fast enough if it did just one thing: make a Big Mac as wide as a Whataburger, and twice as tall.

They keep making Big Macs smaller and smaller, so today they are closing in on White Castle sliders in puny. They do this as much to reduce calories for the Nasty Nellies, as to save money. They are so small they can put them in a little, expensive cardboard box. Expensive compared to the paper wrap that Whataburger uses. It works just fine.

Wrong! Make a BIGGER BURGER. It doesn’t matter if they are $5 a pop, if they are BIG!

McDonalds could even do it on a trial basis. Their sales would speak for themselves.
