So whats the point of jumping right now?
Sometime this week House Republicans will unveil a short list of immigration reform priorities for the coming year. That release could take place at any moment.
The big headline so far is that there will be a legalization of all illegal aliens, with a path to citizenship for those brought here as young children, Backing in G.O.P. for Legal Status for Immigrants.
The big questions are why, and why now?
The Editors of National Review have an excellent editorial, Dont Do It:
The House Republican leadership has been confronted by devilishly difficult tactical choices over the years. But what to do on the issue of immigration right now isnt one of them. The correct course is easy and eminently achievable: Do nothing .
The basic tactical reason not to act now is that the last thing the party needs is a brutal intramural fight when it has been dealt a winning hand on Obamacare. It is not as though the public is clamoring for an immigration bill. Only 3 percent cited immigration as the biggest problem facing the country in a Gallup poll earlier this month. In the key contests that will decide partisan control of the Senate, Republican candidates are much more likely to be helped than hurt by refusing to sign onto any form of amnesty.

Agreed. A path to deportation. Not a reverse auction in which D's and R's compete to see how cheaply they can sell US citizenship to people who are by definition lawbreakers.
They should know by know they can never out-pander democrats.
Because the GOP-e is made up of individuals who have, and will continue to, benefited from massive government. For them it isn’t ideology vs ideology or even party vs party. It’s a grift. Ideology and party is just an expendable pretense that they’ll keep working as long as they can.
Whatever happens, Boner, Cantor, and Ryan will be rich. They’re friends will be rich. If by some miracle they get ran out of office, which is our greatest dream, they’ll rotate into lobbying positions. Then the next guy will join in.
The individuals who run the GOP will not suffer. They won’t die. They and their friends will get paid long after the party dies.
I’ve always found it odd that in general the default assumption is that “reform” constitutes implementation of the progressive agenda.
If you’re against that you oppose reform.
The only exception I can think of in recent years is welfare reform.
The men that run the GOP aren't committing suicide. If they lose their seats they'll just move on to some cushy no show job provided by their Crony Capitalist pals.
Amnesty, unemployment benefits, government shutdown are all rope a dope tactics, by the dems, that are working. I’m sure I left out a few dozen others.
Legalization without citizenship is just another scam. It is never over until the illegal alien and the Dems win.
The REPS DID ZIP AS OBAMA DUMPED QUEERS ON THE MILITARY. STOP THE LIBERAL SPIN.

Perhaps the truth is what he/she/they need. Don’t ask Don’t Tell was Bill Clinton. I left in 75 after nine years. I turned down CGSC at Leavenworth after seeing the EEOC and the lies on URR’s and Mech vehicle status.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
The legalization without citizenship is just another scam that will lead to citizenship. Everyone knows it, but we have to have this Kabuki dance to fool the uniformed and unengaged.
Minutes ago, I heard Ann Coulter on a Boston radio show.
She said that she is just about “at the point where we should consider death squads to eliminate the politicians who favor amnesty.” This from Ann Coulter! Wow.
Heads rolling down the Capitol steps would fix things immediately.
