IIRC the owner of the cow did not maintain his fence and the cow wandered onto this guys land. This happened several times.

Terrible headline. The other post on this topic earlier today noted that he was found not guilty. So he isn't a thief, so the drone guys cannot congratulate themselves on a successful...anything except harassment of an innocent citizen. Good job guys.

There may be conflicting reports like this from the Washington Times . . .

For the first time in American history, a U.S. citizen — a North Dakota farmer — has been sentenced to prison with the aid and assistance of a Predator drone.

Forbes reported that Rodney Brossart was arrested in 2011, after a long standoff with police that came after complaints he stole six cows from one of his neighbors. Police at the time said family members refused to allow them entry to their farm, and Mr. Brossart, meanwhile, refused to show himself in court.

The earlier report said he was found not guilty of stealing the cattle. However he was convicted and sentenced for something related to the standoff with police. That’s just great, you’re right, but if you resist and stand up for your rights you go to prison anyway.

The whole source article is full of inaccuracies. First, he is not the first American sent to jail using imagery from a CBP Preadator B. Second, his first contact with law enforcement was when the sheriff came out to his property to talk about the cows. The property owner chased him off the property with a gun. During that chase the sheriff's department requested air support from CBP and they retasked a drone returning from the border track. The next day the sheriff got a warrant for the owner's arrest and took his SWAT team with him. They requested and received drone support again, a complete waste money since CBP operates a manned aircraft office in the same town. They could have sent a helicopter and achieved the same support result at a fraction of the cost.

U.S. News had different description of the arrest

. Brossart's trouble began in 2011, when six cows wandered onto his property. After Brossart refused to return the cows to their owner, the Grand Forks, N.D., SWAT team was called in to arrest the man. What followed was a 16-hour, armed standoff that eventually ended when the SWAT team called in a Predator drone on loan from the Department of Homeland Security's Customs and Border Patrol. The drone was able to locate Brossart and his three armed sons on the property and let police know it was safe it make to make an arrest. Brossart was allegedly tased during the arrest.

This description isn't accurate either. My sources say the Predator was used to ensure the man and his sons were unarmed before the Warrant was served. This guy appears to be the Ernest T. Bass of Lakota ND, not a criminal mastermind.

Gee. I thought for sure the drones were going to be used to stop the murders in Chicago.

You're mistaken. Their primary mission is to prevent John Connor from being born.

So, the drone was “borrowed” from Homeland Security. And that’s why Homeland Security does not answer to the Department of Defense. We can’t have the military turn loose on the citizenry.

“Hellfire the cows”. One helluva BBQ my friend. Well done with “Baby Back Ribs” sweet sauce. (The sauce arrives in the second drone missile. Sort of a BBQ delivery on wings).
