Three weeks after Jahi McMath was taken out of Children's Hospital Oakland, a video claiming to show the girl's feet and toes responding to sensation has turned up on the Internet.

The video, posted on the "Keep Jahi McMath on life support" Facebook page on Sunday, showed a person's hand rubbing ice gently across the feet of a girl said to be Jahi, the Oakland teen who developed complications after tonsil, nose and throat surgery for sleep apnea and was declared brain-dead.

You both are insane. Go question some one else’s faith

It’s just a question.

Has nothing to do with questioning your faith. The exact opposite in fact. It was a question of what is your faith. Can’t question something if yo don’t even know what it is.

I just don’t know where your defensiveness comes from.

Maybe I’m too sensitive, but I don’t understand the callousness and lack of sympathy for the family nor the seeming zeal in describing her inferred decomposition.

Maybe you are too sensitive. There was no callousness nor lack of sympathy portrayed here. There was only simple affirmation of the fact that the girl has passed on.

I like the old analogy, ‘when you turn off a battery powered radio receiver, you cannot infer that radio waves are no longer in the air.’

Re: 43

Thanks for clarifying the legal ramifications. I am still scratching my head over the actions, and thought the scenario I suggested could have provided a partial explanation. I guess not.

"I disagree."

You can do so, but a simple look at the thread proves you wrong. Sympathy and prayers were voiced for the girl and her family from quite a few people----including the ones you are baselessly accusing of callousness and "zeal" in reporting the decomposition of the body.

You seem to be operating on pure emotion here. What do you expect folks to do? Deny the truth that the child is dead and participate in the fantasy that she's alive because it makes you feel better?

“What do you expect folks to do? Deny the truth that the child is dead and participate in the fantasy that she’s alive because it makes you feel better?”

You have also become irrational.

That is what is so amazing.

Because I do not slag on the family and graphically describe decomposition therefore I am pretending she is not brain dead?

That is the crazy part of this and the weird irrational aspect of it.

Is your perspective so narrow that just because I do not pile on and sing in the condemnatory chorus of she’s dead dead dead that therefore I must think she is alive?

It’s weird.

That’s all you got?

You made up better stuff when you lied about being at the side of brain-dead patients’ beds while they were on life support.

Come on, hit me with something good.

I’d question your faith if you had any.

By the way, if you want to know how to contribute “FACTS” instead of pure hysterical emotion to a conversation, look to post #51 by Qiviut, where he/she posted this educational link:

http://media.nbcbayarea.com/documents/HeidiFlori.pdf

It gets very specific there, with medically & scientifically verifiable observations, instead of completely fabricated hogwash.

There was post #2 from DCBryan1, with a link to the Lazarus reflex punctuated with the word DEAD in all caps, followed by a picture of Dr. McCoy from Star Trek, who is famous for his line “He’s dead, Jim”.

Pretty callous, making his call for prayer immediately afterwards sound disingenuous.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3117075/posts?page=4#4

DCBryan1 once again in post 4, elaborating how rotten Jahi’s body must be and how little he thought of Jahi’s family, concluding by implying they were bad people for not saving others’ lives by donating Jahi’s organs.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3117075/posts?page=8#8

Wolfie in post 8 asks the question that every utilitarian asks: who’s paying? No call for prayers, no sympathy, just the same inference made by every socialist.

After that you have one or two more posts from DCBryan1 along the same lines as before, then Nifster decides to jump in the thread with unverified claims of bodily decomposition, complete with distasteful descriptions, with an obligatory “I feel sorry for the parents” tacked on at the end to weakly emulate sympathy.

What do you have against a factual description of decomposition to support the case that the girl is dead?

Why does the simple truth produce such emotionalism from you?

Simply stating the truth is “piling on and singing in the condemnatory chorus”. What ridiculous, overdramatic, emotional hyperbole.

You’re hysterical, and I am done with you.

From the link to the court document posted by Qiviut:

The brain stem provides vital regulatory control for critical bodily functions such as maintenance of heart rate, temperature, and respiratory effort, as well as regulation of nerve impulses that adjust the tone of blood vessels and nerves throughout the body. Therefore, the body of Ms. McMath, unlike the bodies of those patients with severe brain injury but with retained brain stem reflexes (including Terri Schiavo and Ariel Sharon), simply cannot regulate these life-sustaining functions over time.

Provided that the video in question is not somehow faked, I wonder if the type of reflex observed there is possible without brain stem activity.

Of course, circular reasoning should not be allowed here, as in:

"Jahi is brain-dead, so there is no brain stem activity, so the observed reflex is not a brain stem reflex, because there is no brain stem activity, because Jahi is brain-dead, so there is no brain stem activity, so the observed reflex is not a brain stem reflex, because..."

You conveniently changed the subject from your internal bias wherein you read things in to comments that aren’t there.

As to your Subject-changing question, because it is a repetitive Mantra repeated ad nauseum that was a non-sequitar in terms of my comments and questions.

ifinnegan is being fairly calm. You’re the blindly hysterical one here. You claimed:

“There was no callousness nor lack of sympathy portrayed here.”

... and I plainly showed you there was. Now you want to go stomping off in a huff.

Hysterical indeed.

Brain death is mostly nonsense.

The son of one of my wife’s coworkers was declared brain dead last may, and by July he was walking unassisted.

They had Xrays showing that there was no brain tissue left that they used to try to get an OK to harvest his organs, and now they refuse to even take an Xray for diagnostic purposes.

Jahi will survive if they can keep the death culture at bay.

Christopher Dolan is right. The judge is a standard Bay Area death worshiper. Children’s hospital just wanted to make some bucks off of Jahi.

***************************************

Here is a link to a Korean study of brain dead patients as evidenced by complete unresponsiveness, permanent apnea, and an absence of brainstem reflexes (1) One of the comments made (under Table 1) was: Reflex movements were evoked in all five patients in response to either painful or tactile stimuli.

You can draw your own conclusions from this study, but it certainly does not exclude the type of 'reflex' movement seen in the video.
