India's top court has rejected a plea filed by the government and activist groups to review its shock ruling that reinstated a colonial-era ban on gay sex.
A Supreme Court bench dismissed petitions filed by the government and rights groups against a verdict last month that recriminalised gay sex and made it an offence punishable by up to life imprisonment.
"We see no reason to interfere with the order impugned. The review petitions are dismissed," Supreme Court Justices H L Dattu and S J Mukhopadhaya said in their decision.
In its December 11 ruling, the top court reversed a lower court verdict from 2009 that had set aside a 1860 law outlawing "carnal intercourse against the order of nature".

If the Gay lobby there thinks the law is wrong they can have it removed my parliament. If they can’t pull that off, they can stuff themselves. Good for the Indian judiciary which unlike ours remembers what a legislature is for (not to mention what a judiciary is actually for).

Agreed. People should think again before they believe that the court was actually ruling about sex at all. I think they’re saying it was improper for the court to legislate from the bench, and if the law is to be overturned it must be done by the legislative branch. Which... Is exactly what will happen next. So it’s neither cause for celebration nor gnashing of teeth by anyone.
Guess India sees what happens in other countries when the poofters get riled up and uppity.

I got to give a salute to Russia’s Putin too, he has in the last 6 year accomplished a minor miracle in slowing Russia’s catastrophic demographic decimation.
