Obamacare deadbeats: Some don't pay up
CNN ^ | 30 Jan 2014 | Tami Luhby

Just cause they've signed up for Obamacare doesn't mean they're covered. Around one in five people who picked health insurance policies on the state and federal exchanges last year haven't paid their first month's premiums, according to insurers polled by CNNMoney. These folks will likely see their policy selection canceled and they'll be left uninsured. Some 2.1 million people signed up for a plan in time for their coverage to start January 1, according to the Obama administration. But with the payment deadlines stretching until January 31 at the latest, anywhere between 12% and 30% of those folks still haven't paid up, insurers say. Most consumers were given until the middle or the end of January to pay their first premium, a necessary step to actually activating enrollment. Exchange officials and insurers repeatedly stressed the importance of sending in that first payment, with some following up with the slackers by phone or letter. The true enrollment figure likely won't be known for a few weeks.

Scott & White Health Plan reached out 10 times to each person who hadn't paid and delayed the deadline to Jan. 30, said Allan Einboden, chief executive. Early on, people said there were confused about what they needed to do to activate their policies. Others, however, said they were looking at alternative options or were considering forgoing coverage. The Texas-based insurer expected its payment rate to be in the high 80% range by its deadline, Einboden said, noting that about 450 people had signed up for coverage starting Jan. 1.

Insurance companies will have enough trouble collecting the premiums. Wait till the hospitals try to collect CO pays and deductibles.

And just in time for the Democrats election in the fall, El Bozo will announce that all of those who haven’t paid should be allowed free medical care. It’s only fair, doncha know.

What will the Republicans do? Nothing....and everyone knows it. There ought to have been a million taxpayers with pitchforks circling the Capitol long ago.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Texas home to A WHOLE LOT MORE than 450 people?

“haven’t paid their first month’s premiums”

Wait until the second, third and forth months premiums come do. I am willing to bet there will be further dropout or cancellations.

Let’s see if I’ve got it right. If you can’t or don’t pay you Obamacare premium, you’re a deadbeat. If you can’t or don’t pay your rent, you’re a beleaguered victim of income inequality. Crafty folks, those 1%.

Betcha dollars to donuts those people who signed up thought “Free health care!” and never intended (or perhaps never knew) to pay for it.

As Barney Fife would say ...

Surprise. surprise. surprise.

Today he would say: unexpected in every sentence

Bingo, we have a winner.

The people who supported this thing did so because they thought Obama was promising that their health care would be FREE.

The estimate is for 1 in 5 or 12-30%. I bet it is closer to the 30% or higher. Not even considering those who will lapse out their coverage before June, because they can’t afford it, or will find out they can’t keep their doctor or can’t be seen, or can’t afford the co-pays or deductibles.

There is an odd quiet joy in being completely severed from this whole thing. My wife and I have no health insurance, we are not looking for health insurance, we are not planning on getting any health insurance.

It’s fun to watch the drama, however.

Good luck collecting from tens of millions of deadbeats (or actual dead).

Are you going to refuse Medicare also (if that’s possible)?

As this is CNN, you have to ask yourself what they're hiding with any particular statement. In this case, I would ask, what's the rate of non-payment for those who signed up for non-Medicare policies? That is, subtract the people getting "free insurance" and then tell me what rate of non-payment you're seeing.

Given what we've heard about enrollment being primarily driven by Medicaid signups, I'm thinking the non-payment rate might very well be 50% or higher.

These folks (take that Obastard!) are the biggest deadbeats on the planet. They don’t pay their mortgages, their utility bills or their child support because there isn’t enough money after they buy their cigarettes, lottery tickets and crack.

It make sense they’re not paying for their health insurance policies.
