“Do I need their permission to fly a kite? An RC plane? A hobby rocket?”
Actually, you do, if it’s in certain areas, or over certain altitudes.
BATF is the primary controller of Model Rocketry, for example.

Dodging beer drones doesn’t sound like an activity that mixes with fishing.

If it flies, we are your master? I dunno. Might be why it's called "Federal Aviation Administration?"

So your answer is yes. They have absolute dominion over a drone within one of the several states that picks something up, flies up to 30-40 feet in altitude over a distance of several hundred feet, and lands.
At least I know where you stand.

So dont buzz the ice fishers on this lake. Otherwise, I’m not sure how the constitution empowers the FAA to micromanage this type of activity.
If it was right next to an airstrip, then state authorities would be rightfully concerned. But not the FAA.

If you don’t agree with it, then say so. Otherwise by saying that’s why its called the Federal Aviation Administration, is a coy way of legitimizing their actions.
