How the GOP Lost Middle America

Out of the Republican retreat on Maryland’s Eastern shore comes word that the House leadership is raising the white flag of surrender on immigration.

The GOP will agree to halt the deportation of 12 million illegal aliens and sign on to a blanket amnesty. It only asks that the 12 million not be put on a path to citizenship.

Sorry, but losers do not dictate terms. Rich Trumka of the AFL-CIO says amnesty is no longer enough. Illegal aliens must be put on a path to citizenship and given green cards to work – and join unions.

Rep. Paul Ryan and the Wall Street Journal are for throwing in the towel. Legalize them all and start them on the path to citizenship.

A full and final capitulation. Let’s get it over with.

To understand why and how the Republican Party lost Middle America, and faces demographic death, we need to go back to Bush I.

At the Cold War’s end, the GOP reached a fork in the road. The determination of Middle Americans to preserve the country they grew up in suddenly collided with the profit motive of Corporate America.

The Fortune 500 wanted to close factories in the USA and ship production abroad – where unions did not exist, regulations were light, taxes were low, and wages were a fraction of what they were here in America.

Corporate America was going global and wanted to be rid of its American workforce, the best paid on earth, and replace it with cheap foreign labor.

While manufacturing sought to move production abroad, hotels, motels, bars, restaurants, farms and construction companies that could not move abroad also wanted to replace their expensive American workers.

Thanks to the Republican Party, Corporate America got it all.

U.S. factories in the scores of thousands were shut down, shedding their American workers. Foreign-made goods poured in, filling U.S. stores and killing the manufacturers who had stayed behind, loyal to their U.S. workers.

The Reagan prosperity was exported to Asia and China by the Bush Republicans. And the Reagan Democrats reciprocated by deserting the Bush Republican Party and going home. But this was not the end of what this writer described in his 1998 book, “The Great Betrayal.”

As those hotels, motels, restaurants, bars, fast-food shops, car washes, groceries and other service industries also relished the rewards of cheap foreign labor, they got government assistance in replacing their American workers. snip

We did not want Obamacare, and you Neo-Democrat RINOs gave it to us anyway, and we are the worse for it.

We DO want y’all to enforce existing Federal Border Laws.

WE DO NOT WANT IMMIGRATION REFORM ! Y’all gave us that in 1986, and we are the worse for it!

Now y’all say that “we need to cave in this year to Obama on Immigration Reform.” Why this perversion to betray us!?

This is the same GEE OH PEE pablum that you Neo-Democrat RINOs have been always been feeding to the gullible, low information voters.

McCain, McConnell, Cornyn, Boehner, Cantor, and Ryan are always “waiting for massive support from the Public” before they even consider doing a pitched battle with the enemy.

The “enemy” is y’a’ll caving in to Obama! Just enforce existing Border Laws!

Y’all go on TV to publicly beat y’alls chests, and then “reach across the aisle to y’alls good friends in order to get something done.”

You Neo-Democrat RINOs will never lead, will always wait for a groundswell of Public discontent before risking incurring the wrath of their most dreaded enemy: The Leftstream Media.

Note to all the Congressional RINO leaders: We gave y’all in 2010 what y’all said y’all were waiting for - - - - The Massive TEA Party Rebellion, and y’all fought us every step of the way, and are fighting us now more than ever!

We gave y’all the support that y’all asked for and y’all betrayed us!

Betray us once, shame on you. Betray us twice, shame on us!

LEAD, OR GET OUT OF OUR WAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, we have long memories, and just so y’all know, RINO SEASON IS NOW OPEN AND THERE ARE NO BAG LIMITS !

Boehner pledged to repeal Obamacare, and two months later Boehner said this: “Obamacare is the Law of the Land.”

There have been NO attempts by Boehner to go for the jugular by appointing a Special prosecutor for any of the 4 major Obama Derelictions of Duty.

Boehner made no attempts to stop the illegal changing of the Obamacare Law by the Administration, effectively approving the re-writing of Law by the administration.

No dictatorial Administration could have a more helpful Speaker of the House than John “Benghazi Coverup” Boehner.

Boehner had one last chance when Reid and Obama refused to negotiate, and thereby Reid and Obama shut down part of the Federal Government.

Then Boehner refused to follow Senator Cruz and Lee, and folded to Reid and Obama like the cheap suit that he is.

Boehner is someone that should never have gone into politics.

Those cheap labor seeking businesses will reap what they sow when those illegals become voters and begin electing a bunch of Hugo Chavez clones.

Well, except for 'PJB right again'.

Pat should 'fess up and blame the Reagan Republicans, as well as Bush Republicans, if he is so inclined. Although I appreciate the loyalty he's showing to his former boss.

I have to agree. Boner has been complicit in the Obama/Pelosi/Reid/Kerry subversion and destruction of America (including our economy and jobs and defenses and alliances).

A worse GOP leader could not be found.

Worse for the country, not only for the R party. Mostly for the country.

Can he be voted out soon!?

He can be voted out as Speaker anytime that the Members of the House of Representatives choose to do so.

Why they don’t is beyond me - - - .

He fails to mention the role of big government, which is not surprising, since I haven’t seen any indication that Patrick favors a smaller government.

because he passes out the goodies, maybe?

is he vulnerable to being voted out by his constituents “back home” in his district?

I hired an all American concrete company to do some work for me. The owner lamented the fact that he was being undercut by other companies that were hiring illegals. His options: pay Americans less, hire illegals, or go out of business. That is what is happening on a very large scale in America today, and the GOPe is complicit in this.

As I remember it, Boehner’s District has a large Democrat base.

Obama will make sure that those Democrats vote for Boehner - - - .

Buchanan mentions it's existence only in passing, here:

At the Cold War’s end, the GOP reached a fork in the road. The determination of Middle Americans to preserve the country they grew up in suddenly collided with the profit motive of Corporate America. The Fortune 500 wanted to close factories in the USA and ship production abroad – where unions did not exist, regulations were light, taxes were low, and wages were a fraction of what they were here in America. Corporate America was going global and wanted to be rid of its American workforce, the best paid on earth, and replace it with cheap foreign labor.
He is quick to blame corporate America for wanting to maintain profits by offshoring, to decrease the growing cost of doing business. He does not address the cause - increased regulations and taxes - that led to the higher costs.

Reagan at least paid lip service to fair trade, and pressed the issue in several high profile trade battles.

Actually, when it came to the UAW (Translated: "U Ain't Working"), that was a solid business plan.

begin electing a bunch of Hugo Chavez clones.

Which isn't much worse than the current foreign born ghetto trash (cue his picture of his ghetto hat and him smoking marijuana). Bush. Clinton. O'Dummy. Romney. They're all the same.

I should add that there’s another aspect of legalization that one very rarely hears about. Do you think the concrete companies that pay illegal alien employees under the table are going to want to legalize that labor? Do you think the illegals themselves want to have far less take home pay once they’re paying all the requisite taxes?

There’s a very real possibility that many (most?) illegals simply don’t want to be Americans. If so, they will likely be the next ones out of work when more illegals arrive to take their jobs!

The only solution, in my opinion, is enforcement and deportation. Those businesses who violate our laws to hire illegals must be severely penalized so that the profit of hiring illegals does not outweigh the risks and penalties of getting caught.

BTW, don’t tell me the US government doesn’t already know where many (most) of the illegals are. They know. In this day and age, it is nigh impossible to move any amount of money without the government knowing about it.

National GOP in trouble for sure.
Republicans are doing pretty well in a lot of mid America.

Indiana has a R supermajority in both legislatures and R gov and passed RTW.
Wisconsin and Michigan have made good R gains also.

drivel

Obamacare and most of the present problems are the result of raw political power.

The conservative minority is so fragmented it is unable to coalesce into a substantive force. That may be happening now but is not yes strong enough to prevail

“His options: pay Americans less, hire illegals, or go out of business.”

Let’s look at US business. Their options are pay Americans less, offshore the jobs or hire illegals, or go out of business which many have.

Do you think GM and Ford can compete with Hyundai and Toyota with US workers and regulations ? Well they can’t so they offshore parts of their production just like toyota and honda do.

The real problem is after wwII the USA had the only surviving infrastructure and manufacturing base in the entire world because the rest of the world got destroyed in the war.

The USA has been living off that legacy for a long time and the legacy advantages are now running out.
